Demeter yawned and nodded. “Good. All that noise is bound to have alerted the Serpent to our presence. Whoever sicced these things on is probably meant to have that exact effect and that really pisses me off.”
Sabrina came up from below with a pink vial. “It’s done Professor!!”

Not having learned her lesson at all, Justine went to check on Nigel who seemed to have gotten on the wrong end of one of the shrimps. “Are you alright?” She asked, looking him over. She had very little medical training. Nigel seemed far more concerned that the beast had scratched or dented his immaculate plate than any damage the beast had done to him. "Quite alright, my dear," he assured Justine, striking a heroic pose with only the slightest of a wince in pain. "It takes far more than one curmudgeonly crustacean to do in the Adventurer Extraordinaire! Though you are welcome to make a more thorough inspection of my person."

He did seem to recover quickly at least. She glanced him over again and worried for their healer, Ceutinde. He seemed like he’d attempt a seduction even as he was bleeding out. “Well, good.” There was an awkward silence. “I finished your book. I dare say you’ve fought worse than that and survived. Glad to be on your team and not on the other end of the cannon.”

"Countless times, but each new adventure is a step into the unknown. A new foe to overcome, new ground on which to trod, new women to woo." he looked off into the horizon, in the direction they were sailing, genuinely excited for the danger ahead. It was quite possible he was entirely mad. "So what was your favorite part? Did it inspire you imagination the same as years ago?"

It was quite possible he was entirely mad. "So what was your favorite part? Did it inspire you imagination the same as years ago?" She looked into the horizon with him, patently wondering if there were more shrimps out there ready to wreck their vessel and murder the other intern. When he spoke again to her she turned back. “I liked when you stumbled upon a small native village in a previously unknown location. And, despite not knowing the language, When you not only dissuaded them from eating you But also seduced their chieftans daughter. Very impressive.” She took it with a grain of salt. A large one. But it was still very entertaining. “I confess I have experienced much more since the first time, but the lurid parts were still quite...lurid.”

"Aha! Yes, that was quite the adventure. When a woman says she wants a taste of Nigel Thornheart, whatever the language, let it not be said he does not oblige." He had made that exact joke in the book. "Old Max had quite the ordeal illustrating that particular adventure, but the results really do speak for themselves. I'll have to see if I can get old Archie to do a few sketches of the eyeful he got earlier."

“No, I mean the view the old pervert got when he barged in on the good Captain and me earlier.” Nigel chuckles and muttered something about sea cats, reveling in his own impeccable and refined sense of comedy. “So did any of the illustrations leave you inspired? Perhaps you dog eared a few pages you’d like to try on for size? A fair warning, like my adventures, they are not for the faint of heart.”

“Win would be nice if you have some going spare,” Thalia said looking up towards the deck as the screaming continued, let the old coot try and punish her, on what grounds, she had as much right to open cage doors as he had to close them, and by even better, she’d love to see him try, she’d boil his stomach acid in his gut until he cooked in his own flesh suit. His aids were welcome to pickle him and put him on display.
“Might be less likely to hear the tirade in our cabin.”

Elise got up and walked back to the cabin with her. “I sort of like listening to it. It reminds me of my dogs back home. Besides, I probably should let the captain know we’ve found something out.” She opened her drawer and pulled out a skin of wine then took a drink. “Not the finest vintage but it serves its purpose,” she said as she offered it to Thalia. “And I still want a chance at seeing that serpent,” she added as she headed back upstairs.

Thalia waited a while, leaving the wine I drunk before she too went up onto the deck, looking out feeling her time was being wasted, she headed over to Elise and the Captain.

Demeter was eating a grape when she walked up. “You sure put on a show,@ she said with evident approval. “Haven’t seen a fire Elementalist like that in a long time. Not since I was fighting the Kraken anyway. Elise said you two might be able to track whoever sent those things after us. That true?”

“It could be possible, “ she admitted, “I can prepare a spell maybe to track it, I am sure between us all we could get something together, Elise told you about the sorcerer we saw then. That’s good. It was not outside the realm of possibility but it’s curious how they knew we were where we were and that we’d set off.”

The captain spat out a seed overboard and frowned. “We reported going to Vittoria with the portmaster so I’m not sure who would know either. Guess we’ll just need to keep our eyes out for anything else.” She looked back to Thalia. “In a few days we’ll be going by Nedrassia itself. Just to warn you two, magic apparently acts really strange right around the island so just be aware. I’ll warn you when we’re twenty miles out or so. Legend has it one wind elementalist tried casting a spell to make her ship sail faster and blew it to pieces instead.”

“Well, i would never use magic to interfere with job” Thalia assured her, but looked back, “how do they know what caused it if the ship blew up.” She asked.
