The smaller ship as it passes through the great Nedrassian Trench, a near mythic section of ocean that only the most desperate or talented captains have ever sailed.

Captain Daramont swallowed drily as he followed the Odyssey out of the current. They are about six hundred meters behind the larger ship and a hundred meters to port. Those on deck see flags waving from the Odyssey and he signals acknowledgment back. Zavier has calmed down a bit and is now sketching the great shipwreck city. “Ma’am,” the captain told Ceutinde, “the Odyssey is saying to hold any fire unless given a command.” He looked every which way. “I’m not exactly sure what she thinks we would shoot at.”

Ceutinde had been eyeing the wrecks when the captain called her over. "Presumably they see something we don't. Or they're expecting something. They gave no previous warnings?"

“This is the Nedrassian Trench...supposedly. No one ever comes this way. Those ships are from far west of her and the current brings them in over the months. I thought it was mostly a myth in truth. Like the pipsqueak said, there is some species of serpent that inhabits the area but I’ve no clue why we’d hold our fire if we saw one of the beasts.” He shrugged. “I’m just going to keep focused on keeping us out of that madness,” he said, following her gaze to the hellish seascape.

"Perhaps they're docile if left alone. Plenty to scavenge here, they might not bother with chasing prey. But I have no idea." She took a look at Zavier's sketch over his shoulder. "Good eye and nimble fingers. An auspicious combination."

Zavier nodded. “Silver tongue too,” he responded. He looked back at the captain then shrugged. “Hopefully we get through this fast. The stories people tel about here are hard to believe. Of course, if it was really that bad no one would be around to spread the rumors right?”

"Exactly right." Though she knocked on a wooden railing, just in case. She was pleased to see the young man's growth in confidence since their lessons had started. "And it's from here that your...apparatus will take us the rest of the way?"

Kjell leaned on the railing and kept her eyes fixed on the water, not paying much attention to the chatter on deck.

Kjell could see a large dark shape a few hundred yards to starboard under the water. It looked like it could be rising to the surface.

Konrad came up on deck, two of his men sauntering a ways behind. He took up a position next to Kjell, and saw her staring out into the distance.
"What is it," he asked, "Do you see something in there?"

She pointed out the shadow without looking at him. "See that?" she asked.

Konrad nodded solemnly and placed his hand on his sword hilt as if it gave him confidence.
"I think now would be a good time to raise the alarm," he said calmly.

"If it can be done quietly," she said evenly, taking a look at him. "There are people on this ship who are delusional enough to think we could take on a giant sea monster." She studied the shape again. "Could be a whale. Either way, loud sounds will disturb it, whatever it is."

Konrad bit his tongue, "stay and keep your eyes on it then, they're keener than mine," he said, "I'll get the captain." And with that Konrad hurried towards the Captain's location, looking for either him or the Elf healer.

Ceutinde straightened from her art appraisal when she noticed Konrad rushing over. "What's wrong?"
