Elspeth nodded. “That would be tragic. So you are on the hook for nine hundred gold, in coins or service. See you tomorrow dearie. I’ll have Candace paint some new landscapes on the ceiling in the back room so you’ll have something to look at when you can’t pay up.”

The elf rolled her eyes at the bluster, and withdrew her hand. Provincials. Let them underestimate her. "You're undercharging for me if you think it'd take longer than a week to work off that debt," She answered, leaning in toward the smaller woman's ear and whispering, "But I'd love to show you what you're missing when you come by tomorrow," before straightening up, blowing a kiss, and walking off with an extra shake in her step.

Elspeth chuckled as she leaned in. “I’m looking forward to it,” she whispered back.

Back at their own pier, Ceutinde sent most of the sailors back to the ship, but kept a couple with her. She went off with them to find some help for the next part.

Some time later, Kjell boarded the Odyssey, smelling vaguely of whiskey. She hailed one of the sailors. “Is either one of the sorcerers in?” she asked. “Sorcerer...sses.”

A sailor pointed to the stairs leading below. “That one is. Elise. Knock softly, she’s pretty crazy.”

“Yesss,” she whispered, and turned to go, then pivoted around. “Which door?” she called.

“I’ll just show you,” the man offered. He headed downstairs and pointed to a door. “That one. Ignore whatever incense she’s burning. It actually gets rather relaxing after a while.”

She nodded solemnly and thanked the man, then knocked on the door. She was going for a soft knock as had been suggested, but then it occurred to her that this Elise might be asleep and if she was asleep, she wouldn’t hear a soft knock and this was urgent and so the knock was kinda LOUD.

“What!” She heard a woman scream from behind the door, then it flung open and the sorceress stopped whatever she was going to say. “Not who I was expecting,” she admitted.

“Hi,” she replied with a small apologetic smile. “I’m ship from... I’m Kjell from the other ship,” she said. “I was wondering if you could help me with something?”

“My grammar classes are expensive but you’ll get your money’s worth,” she deadpanned. “Come on in.” She steps aside and let’s her enter. “This doesn’t have anything to do with the gunshots earlier does it?”

She scratched the back of her head and stepped in. “Yes and no,” she said. “Any chance you have magic... to stop others with magic from finding me? And seeing into my head,” she asked. “I have two, maybe four problems.”

The sorceress nodded. “That’s my specialty. Magic of the soul,” she said. She opened a drawer and pulled a comically large assortment of materials from it as she searched, then she drew out a bottle of salve. “This is it! Take a bath with it and you’ll get about a week where someone would have a rare hard time using magic to duck with your dreams.”

She inspected the bottle skeptically. “That’s it? What happens after a week,” she hiccupped, “is there more?”
