Damien bowed deeply to the barmaid. “Of course you do. Tell me is the Queen of Pirates in residence? I do not want to stumble across her at the moment. It is always so awkward when you run into an ex.” He looked at all the barrels of spirits. “So what is your best?”
He caught Justine’s wave and returned it in kind. “Good evening Justine. I won’t come over there I do not want to interrupt your romantic tryst with that man from the other ship. The sexual tension between the two of you is palpable even from here. So carry on. Pretend i am not even here. Unless that helps you then go ahead and picture Me however you like. Meow.” He made a little scratching motion with his hand.

Tejuani chuckled. “She is our at sea, Your Majesty. But you have fallen behind on the times living so far away. There’s a new queen in town and she has..well, she has taken a rather different approach to governing,” she chuckled. “If you’re bored go visit her on Terrapin Rock. I’m sure she’d love to see you.”

He turned back and held up his beer mug for Justine to sample.

He smiled wickedly, "I need to hear more about this new queen. She sounds dangerous to me... and I do love a spot of danger." He took a drink his mug and chuckled low under his breath, ""Though that has caused me more pain in my life one way or another then any of my other proclivities." He had a nose for danger and her words had reeked of a trap. He gave the room a quick scan looking for danger.

”Good Gods, whatever veneral disease affects Thornheart’s brain must be spreading over there on the Odyssey.” Konrad retorted, but his face blushed and he was smiling warmly. He turned back and held up his beer mug for Justine to sample. She swiftly averted her eyes from the King of Thieves. What an embarrassing creature he was. She had thought they were friends, even...but at least drinks were on him. Konrad seemed barely perturbed. “He isn’t a very convincing cat,” she said before drinking. The beer was rich and dark and bitter. She had tasted many things worse. “You realize my bunk is on the Odyssey as well? Perhaps it’s catching.” She snapped her teeth at him playfully as she handed the drink back and ordered something new. All on Damien’s dime.

Konrad laughed, “yes I suppose it is, isn’t it? Perhaps we shall all be sex-maniacs with oversized egos before this whole thing comes to an end.” He tilt back the beer and finished it, and ordered another with a gesture to the barkeep.
“Speaking of our adventure, can I ask you something? Why did you come? What did the letter they sent you promise?”

“Half the time I am in awe of that man Thornheart, and the other half I’m actually in his presence.” She smirked, eyes glittering with amusement. She got her second drink and sipped it a little more slowly.
“They promised freedom. I wouldn’t have to live like a fugitive anymore. I doubt they’d be able to restore lands and titles, but at least I could stay in one place and start building something.” She shrugged, as if it was nothing, but she looked away, contemplative.

Konrad chuckled appreciative, and then his face turned graver as she reflected on her inducement to this dangerous mission. Those who would have such a power would be formidable indeed, but so far their benefactors has done nothing to indicate they could not accomplish such a promise. “That is a worthy prize indeed, as soon enough you shall have it..” He said, as he took his second beer and sipped it.

“This almost feels like it would be too easy. Come out here, do the job, leave. There has to be a catch. Something horrifying on the island. Something that will decimate even a large group as ours.” She stared into her cup, the golden liquid shining in the light streaming in from the windows. “Nothing is ever that easy.”
“Anyway, what did they offer you? From here it looks like there are few things you don’t already have.”

Konrad nodded. He got that a lot. Wealthy, young, good looking Konrad. What could he ever need or want? He sipped his drink.
“My parents were murdered,” he said. “Few people know that, I try not to advertise it as you can imagine. But I found them myself. In their own bed, dessicated and drained of blood as though set upon some massive spider. I can still smell it some times.” He looked at his beer mug for a moment as though it twisted his stomach.
“They told me that if I helped them get what they want they would give me some piece of evidence to help track down whatever killed them.”

Justine didn’t try to console him or offer him platitudes. She knew that horrible things happened all the time. Some things could never be made right. Revenge, Justice...sometimes they were the same thing.
Most of all, though, she was surprised that he had come for something comparatively so small. They had not offered him a solution but a tool to do it himself, and he had put in all this effort for just that. It was possibly the most respectable thing about him, she decided. To hell with the money and the titles and all the rest.
“I can’t imagine what that must have been like,” she finally said. “Did you have any leads before? I mean, before our benefactors made their offer?”

I’be chased down more false leads then I care to think about. So you can see even the chance for some small clue held much attraction.” He held up his glass in a toast, “to our successful venture, and the freedom from the past it may bring.”

He had a nose for danger and her words had reeked of a trap. He gave the room a quick scan looking for danger. He doesn’t sense any danger; this place is as close to safe as anywhere off the Odyssey is likely to be. “She goes by the Black Rose, I think her actual name is Rose but you can never tell with these people,” Tejuani said. “Her ship’s the only one even close to that frigate you all fit in here’s size. Supposedly she stole it from some Innurian noble while he was actually on it. Seems a worthy heist to me.”

She raised her glass as well, clinking it against his lightly. “Success and freedom,” she echoed before she drank. “Thank you for not being upset with me, by the way.”

"Why would I be upset with you," Konrad replied, even as his pectoral chose that moment to itch beneath the bandage he'd applied himself, out of embarrassment, "I cannot blame you for what happened. It is my own fault anyway."
