At first Silvia stared and then she burst into laughter. "But that's ridiculous! Those things clearly had no dealings with humans. Why would Thornheart even believe they did? Was he drunk?"
Something didn't quite add up, as far as Silvia was concerned. Were Thornheart's tales of heroic deeds just stories after all, as she had believed until the day he appeared in the tavern? Was it all a big misunderstanding, or had the old man conspired with Tehol against his old enemy and got K'rull killed into the bargain? Or maybe all of them were lying to conceal some other, darker truth. The only part of the story Silvia was certain of was that K'rull had been the unfortunate and undeserving casualty in the conflict between the humans. She sighed and looked over at the grimy pond.
"What is a purple seersucker?"

“A nightmare made flesh! A demon from Asanar! The Great Black Beast of...” a small bipedal creature with long forelimbs emerged from a hole to sniff the air. It was about the size of a rabbit. It had violet fur and two sets of fuzzy dragonfly wings. Sabrina chuckled.

"Oh, that's cute," Silvia said, eagerly watching the creature. That thing can't possibly be dangerous."

“You’re mostly right,” Isaak said. “But...” as Sabrina laughed, more and more of them popped out. Soon there were dozens. “They don’t hunt alone. They ate the old arch mage who used to rule from his tower in Chalt.”

"What" She frowned down at the cute little animals. They certainly didn't look particularly carnivorous "You're pulling my leg!"

Tehol looks at them before just shaking his head, "Cute but I believed we had a destination in mind?" He reminded Isaak as he was walking along.

“Tough crowd,” the short little poacher grumbled as he led them farther on. About ten minutes later, they come to the swamps. The jungle trees part to reveal a sudden dip in the land, and dozens of strange creatures fly, the biggest over fifteen feet long. Some have two heads, and on the swampy earth the party sees some strange hydras, their six heads snapping up small creatures to eat independently. “The Chimera Swamps!” Isaak said with relish. “Home to the strangest beasts Mother Nature decided to spit out!”

Tehol squats down at the edge of the swamp to watch the beasts at play and smiles sadly, "They may be strange appearance wise, but they are creatures of mother earth nonetheless and act accordingly."

Isaak looks at him like he’s a chimera. “I mean I guess, but I ain’t ever spat venom from my mouth and swallowed a lamb whole.” Tehol can feel the beasts in his mind as any good Beastmaster can. A rapport with anything the Mist hadn’t corrupted came quite naturally to him.

Tehol gingerly reaches out with his mind to the creatures around the area, he hadn't done this in awhile and the loss of K'rull left him more vulnerable in ways that weren't readily apparent to those around him.

After a while a serpent slithers to the strange man, its eight heads tearing in different directions and then all settling to look at him. It’s about twenty feet long and as big around as a large elf at its widest. It’s central head is slightly bigger than a humans and the rest are about the same size as a German shepherd’s. It looks quizzically at the beastman and bares its two hundred teeth.

Tehol reaches out his hand gingerly, "How's it going buddy? Or would that be buddies, just what sort of personality is within you."

The hydra seems to have just the one brain, or several segments of one brain, because its mind is clearly a single entity. It slithered around him, sniffing and tasting the air with its tongue. It looked at the rest of the party with disinterest.

Tehol pulls out a fish and tosses it to the Hydra, before continuing to randomly talk to it though knowing it’s not going to respond. “How about it buddy, would you like to tag along with me for a bit?”

A small head strikes out to snag the fish and it filled it down. The hydra’s other heads watched in all directions and it finally seemed to relax. Tehol felt the warm buzz of the creature’s mind in his.
