"Oh how lovely, you already made a friend! That's splendid!" Archie smiled as he watched the snake climb into Tehol's arm.
The professor had not really been paying much attention to what the dwarf had been talking. He technically had no need for a guide, this was nothing compared to the good days of his youth and be probably knew most of what there was to know about these creatures anyway. So, he spent most of their track taking notes and sketching the fauna and flora of the island in silence.

Thalia looked at Sylvia quizzed people about Thornheart and considered informing on her experience, but it would almost be seen as taking the side of the crazy doctor and she could not abide that either. After all both Nigel and stellar were responsible, and she didn’t want the good doctor to get away with his recklessness. She made a note to corner the swallow or whatever her title was later and spill some real tea, then she could disparage them both, since they were both delusional hypocrites who were happy to endanger the whole expedition to fulfill their own pathetic personal agendas.
She had expected the best of the best on this trip, at least the best Innuria has to offer and the only competent person on the expedition she’s met was a fellow citizen of Lisandro. It really Made one think.
“Let’s just move on, I wish to see the island”

Silvia wasn't much interested in reptiles (except for the Nedrassian Serpent, of course) but her heart warmed to see Tehol interacting with another creature rather than consumed by his grief. The hydra was a strange creature to be sure, but if its presence cheered the man, that was all that mattered. She knew little of the art of the beastmaster, however, and wasn't sure if the connection would come to anything. On the other hand, she could now write a song about travelling with a hydra even if the experience only lasted a few minutes.
"Yes, there is so much to see. I want to see everything." She turned with curiosity to the red-haired woman she hadn't yet had the opportunity to speak with, since they had been sailing on different ships. "We were promised chimeras, after all. Have you seen one?"

As Silvia spoke, one of the low flying chimeras saw a smaller one eating a tapir‘a rotting carcass and it hissed and screamed as it landed on the younger one and ripped it apart. It’s a gory display. “That’s the stuff!” Isaak laughed.

"Come friend," Tehol says to the Hydra. "These people are desperate to see more of the island so we can get back to the mainland." He adds wondering when would be appropriate to name the creature, Karlos, Korlat, Karaboos... perhaps Korabas. he thinks idly to himself.

Silvia watched it curiously. She had somehow imagined the chimera would be a more attractive kind of animal. It was interesting nonetheless and she was eager to see more.

The hydra is considerably faster than them so it settles into a lazy slither as they move on. They enter the swamps and Isaak’s staff keeps their feet from going through the surface of the water somehow. “Here’s the swamp!” He said. “Fish below and predators everywhere. And that’s before the swamp reavers! Best pray we don’t run into those. They’ll gobble us right up.”

Tehol goes from looking around the swamp itself to glancing at the guide, "And what matter of beast would these swamp reavers be?" Wondering if they were just lost souls who inhabit the swamp who have resorted to cannibalism.

“You ever heard of a praying mantis? Well, make them intelligent and then twelve feet long and you got a rough idea. Weren’t for this magic spell they’d be on is like white on rice.” He chuckled. Sabrina came up to Thalia.
“I think this guy’s completely insane. Is that bad?”

Silvia lounged back and watched the hydra to see if it continued to follow Tehol.

After taking in the natural beauty of the Swamp that only beastmasters and academicians can really appreciate, Tehol starts experimenting with the Hydra he dubbed 'Korabas' to see what it was capable of. He has idle wishes that include jokingly playing Wack-a-Mole with it's many heads for a comedy skit.

Herneiros returned from taking a leak.
"Oh, you have found a hydra... have never figured out where actual brain is hidden. Most perplexing. Might just have complex nervous system.... might be magic."
The hunter shrugged.
"Tastes surprisingly like turkey though."

"Well, this one is off limits now unless you don't favor having both of your hands." Tehol gestures to the 8 heads and over 200 teeth. "I'm sure they would find you taste quite pleasant as well."

"Ha! Manly display of protective instinct. This means you are bonding already." Herneiros laughed.
"But fear not for you pretty friends. I would not disrupt our mighty fellowship just for a little craving of that bland, underseasoned turkey taste."
He turned to Isaak. "Where are the scary ones? We were promised chimera." He looked over the dwarf and spotted one.
"Fantastic. Good job, Mister Isaak."
He drew his bow and arrow while crouching and stealthily approaching the creature.

Herneiros gets within fifteen meters of the creature, prime shooting distance. As he gets farther from the dwarf the ground gets softer and softer...
