“Just put her in my cabin I guess,” Demeter said. “We’re going to be running out of space soon anyway.”

"Thank you, Captain." Ceutinde helped Kjell up the gangplank and aft to the cabin, where she lowered her patient gently onto the bed. "Same thing that got him, big magic snake?" She asked as she looked at the leg wound. "Let's draw that out." Placing her hands over the fang marks, Kjell felt them warm considerably, then cool back down to normal. When she pulled her hands away, she turned and spat something dark and thick onto the deck, as though she had actually sucked out the venom. "There. Now just your standard-fare horrible wounds to deal with. Feel better?"

Kjell nodded at Ceutinde's first question and let her do her thing. She leaned to the side on her elbow to peer at the venom on the floor. "That's a pretty neat trick," she said, trying not to sound overly impressed. She nodded once more in response to the second question. "I do. Thank you."
She eyed the holes in her calf and sighed almost forlornly. Up until this evening, that had been her only unscarred limb.

"It's not actually all that serious, now the poison's gone." Ceutinde said, looking over the fangmarks. "Just needs to be cleaned and tended to." She pulled a pair of fabric shears from her bag. "I hope you aren't terribly attached to these trousers."

"Not terribly," she replied as she reached over to remove her boot, because the boots were another thing; she didn't have an extra pair of them in her backpack. She pulled it off, and upon seeing the number of holes and the amount of blood gushing from them, quickly swung her foot over the edge of the bed so as not to bloody the captain's sheets entirely. "The fuck?" She dropped the soaked boot to the floor and inspected the fangmarks. "That's a lot of fangs for one snake."

Ceutinde's eyes went wide and she gasped, "Stop moving!" Seeing as Kjell'd already swung around, she pulled a chair over to prop the leg up on. "I daresay the captain's had bloodstains on her furniture before." She took the shears and sliced up the obstructive pant leg to the thigh, before realizing some water would help with the cleaning process. "Hold on. And that means stay still." She stood, grabbed the nearest vase or something like one, and held it outside long enough to collect a decent amount of rain. Producing some soap and a cloth from her bag, she set to cleaning the wounds. "You did get lucky - seems the thing missed everything major. What was it?"

Kjell cracked her neck a few times while she waited but remained still otherwise.
She looked Ceutinde in the eye and replied very seriously, "It was a snake."

Ceutinde shrugged, and didn't bother giving her the brandy before pulling out a needle and thread and starting to sew up one of the larger holes. "Don't be obtuse. What sort of I-can-only-assume-magical-snake was it? A description might help."

"It was... made of gas, I think? Flew and phased through me, kind of like it wasn't really here. Could only hit it when it attacked, so I guess it must've crossed over temporarily when it did." She thought a moment, looking at the stitching. "It dropped some kind of a jewel when it died. And it came with two wizards, so... likely summoned?"

Ceutinde scrunched her eyebrows at that. "Very odd. I never did have any talent for summoning. Can only remake flesh and blood, not create it entirely. One of them an elf?" She checked her handiwork and pulled out a thick roll of bandages to mummy her leg up.

"No. Humans," she replied. "Why?"

"You got doubly lucky, then. The only proper summoners are elves. As terrible as that thing was, I guarantee it was a pale imitation of what one of our kind could do." Ceutinde kept her eyes on her work, finishing tying the bandage off before standing up and glancing around the room to find the captain's liquor cabinet. Once found, she poured two small glasses of hopefully-nicer-than-what-was-in-her-flask brandy, rum, or whatever else was available and passed one to Kjell. "To a speedy recovery. Purely medicinal, of course."

Kjell smiled wryly at that, knowing well that she'd ran out of luck a long time ago. She accepted the glass, raised it and knocked the drink back, whatever it was. Burned nicely. "Thank you. Again," she said. Setting the empty glass aside, she rose to test her leg. It was good to have a healer at hand. Her own stitches definitely tended to look and feel like a child's in comparison. Deciding she could put more weight on the leg again, she went over to her pack and began rummaging through it for her spare trousers.

Ceutinde watched her stand with trepidation, deciding it was probably all right. She'd wrapped it tight. "It's what I'm here for. Sitting in the back ranks cleaning up while everyone else risks their lives over my decisions."

Having found her second pair of pants, which were still rolled around the bottle Elise had given her, she unrolled them and put the bottle back, then dropped the thigh holster with the double-barrelled gun into the unceremonious pile of her other weapons on the floor. She was just about to undo her belt buckle, but as Ceutinde spoke, turned to glance at her in slight confusion. "What do you mean? I shot the wizard and he sent his goons after us. It's my fault. So I'm going back," she said.
