Justine wondered if the awkwardness she felt about Silvia and Herneiros at this moment was what everyone else felt if they had to maybe read like three whole pages about her and Konrad.

As Archimedes inspects the scale, he has a small epiphany. Natural scales as a rule don’t have completely separate backs from fronts, most differences are based on residual skin remaining.

"Well, this is quite interesting..." Archiemedes scratching his chin, letting the discovery settle in. "I don't think this is an actual scale... Or at least, not in the sense we usually understand what a scale is."
"See this?!" He pointed to the different sides of the scale. "Shouldn't happen. The only differences that usually happen are due to skin residue... There shouldn't be that much contrast."

Konrad felt like an idiot, but leaned forward to the scale.
“Hello?” He said in imperial, “do you understand me?”

Sabrina frowned and continued sketching the patterns of Silvia’s song, notating the colors by musical note. When Konrad leaned and spoke to it in the older tongue, the scale burned a bright violet and the north side of the scale erupted with small flashes of different colors, lancing from his position in straight lines northwest, north and northeast. There’s at least a dozen of them and they all follow the same pattern over and over. One is closer to East and seems to be pointing right at al-Khial with a brilliant scarlet.

“Just to test for contrast” Thalia tried speaking to it in the Lisandran tongue. Then held up her hand and started preparing a spell, so that it wouldn’t perceive it as a threat, it was her healing spell, and she didn’t intend to use it, just introduce some magic to the party to see what it did.

The scale only reacted with its fractal-like pulsing at the Lisandran dialect, but when she casts a minor spell the spot nearest her glows a soft sky blue and some strange symbols appear once the spell ends. It could be writing but none of them have ever seen it before.

Thalia asks Sabrina for a sheet of paper and records the markings so she could research them later, then tried each different element to see if it had different reactions.

Sabrina and her record the markings and every different form of spell she uses causes the scale to change color, although the lines still follow Konrad’s origin point for a few minutes before fading. It turns silver red blue and a topaz orange for earth.

Silvia looked around at the others. "Does anyone have any theories as to why the serpent gave this to us? And what use we can put it to?"
