Most or all of the adventurers stayed at Priscilla's overnight. The next morning, it was necessary to make a definite decision regarding the future of the former slaves, the expedition and any other business. Silvia in particular wanted to discuss the scale that had been shed by the Nedrassian Serpent, since it was currently taking up the majority of her cabin aboard the Tranquility. So, she found a loaf of bread, a pat of butter and some cheese and laid the food out for her companions before asking them to join her for a breakfast meeting. She disliked cooking so, if anyone wanted something else, they could cook it themselves. She also obtained some bottles of ale in case anyone was thirsty.

Konrad awoke with a shudder as he forgot for a moment where he was or how he’d gotten there. Looking over he saw Justine, her eyes still closed, wrapped in the sheets, and it came back. He took a brief moment to savor the memories, and he smiled in self-satisfaction. Reminiscing complete, he sat up and extricated himself from Justine’s limbs cautiously so as not to awaken her, and then got out of the bed and went to found his clothes, now mostly dried.
When he had dressed he stole back to the bed, and planted a kiss on the sleeping woman’s forehead, before heading down the stairs.
“Hallo good morning!” He told Silvia, as he approached the table, “you seem chipper.”

"So do you." She gave him a saucy grin. "I reckon you had a better night's sleep than I did. I scrounged up some breakfast if you're interested."
She indicated the loaf of bread, and finished buttering her own slices. "I'd rather have bacon but I was too hungry to look around for something else."

She indicated the loaf of bread, and finished buttering her bread. "I'd rather have bacon but I was too hungry to look around for something else." “It was a good night,” he agreed, leaving out the part about sleeping, which had only come in small sections. “It’s a veritable feast, it seems to me,” he said as he sat and began cutting a piece of bread with his dagger and taking a bite. “Things seemed uneventful. Unsurprisingly. Still it would be good to get on the ships and take our leave, I think we’ve worn out our welcome.”

She decided not to tease him about his night with Justine. Perhaps later.
"Yes, I think so too. I think we should stick with the plan to send the former slaves to Bastion on the Tranquility. Ceutinde's people can look after them, make sure they find work. It's a good thing we brought two ships even though there was plenty of room aboard the Odyssey."
Silvia added cheese to one slice of bread and placed another slice on top to form a sandwich then cut it in half.
"We'll have to move our belongings, of course, but that's easily done. Although, I need to talk to Ceutinde about the scale the serpent left behind. I never got around to it before we arrived here, and the storm hit before I had the chance to mention it afterwards. We don't want that thing falling into the wrong hands. I'm wondering if we should stash it aboard the Odyssey after all, and take it with us. There's no telling what a bunch of former slaves might think to do with it. If they didn't toss it overboard, obviously."

I went back to find it and it was gone, I was afraid it was lost. I am not sure what it’s significance is, but I am sure it must be valuable. So I agree. Let’s keep it stored safely. I was also thinking perhaps the professor might make heads or tails of if? I don’t know him well though so I was nervous to bring it up.”

"It's early days yet. Most of us don't know one another well yet." She grinned and took a bite of her sandwich.
After swallowing her mouthful of bread and cheese, she said "I'd be happy to approach the professor, if he makes you nervous. He's a student of animal life, after all, and I love animals. Besides, he'll never resist my charm." She grinned and took another bite of her sandwich.
"On the other hand, we might not have the scale at all if you hadn't spoken to the serpent like you did, and it sounds like you're rather invested in it, so perhaps you should come along. We should make sure Thornheart is nowhere nearby when we speak to the professor, because the old man obviously can't stand him. When we went on the safari-"
She broke off with a sigh and swallowed a mouthful of ale as she thought about poor K'rull and Tehol and wondered, yet again, what the true story was regarding that incident. She would probably never know.
"Never mind the safari. The point is, we have a better chance of getting the professor to help us is if Thornheart's not in sight. Their rivalry is too distracting for him."

He said things the other day to Justine and I, that... well a younger version of myself would have demanded satisfaction at the point of a blade. I don’t have wonder if that’s what the crusty old mercenary had in mind.” Konrad scowled at the thought of it, and then chewed on his dry bread.

Silvia ate another bite of her sandwich while she mulled over her conflicted feelings over Nigel Thornheart. She also wondered at the precise relationship between Konrad and Justine.
"Thornheart is an odd fellow for sure. Larger than life, and the fame has obviously gone to his head. I suppose it would go to anyone's head, though I have to admit, he writes a damned good story. But it's probably wise that you didn't challenge him. He wouldn't be a living legend if he was no good in combat."
After another bite of bread and cheese, she added "So you agree with me, then? We have to keep the two of them apart if we're to discuss the scale with the old man."

We can get the scale safely aboard and then fetch the doctor to discuss it when he is alone.” Konrad agreed, reaching out and cutting off a piece of cheese, which he ate off the blade. “Seems like that is decided.” He added when he had finished. “What’s next? I have some things worth mentioning, information I’ve learned, but it should probably wait until we are all assembled.”

"Yes. We can't make decisions for the entire group. Not even if we want to." Silvia grinned. "Let's enjoy our breakfast, for now. When the others come down we'll have to talk about the next stage of the voyage, the logistics of moving from the Tranquility to the Odyssey. We should probably also see if this place has anything worth taking. Extra rations, whatever's useful. It'll just go to waste, otherwise. Though I may as well say now that I think that man was controlling my mind. The fat man who told me to fetch the red cloak. So we should probably be on our guard against him. I suppose he's a wizard."

The mind-reader I assume was the one that Ceuntide mentioned?”

Eventually Justine stirred. She woke with a smile on her face and, if not well-rested, in a good mood at least. She rolled over to find herself alone. Oh.
She got up and put on her clothes, shaking out her dress that had stiffened over the chair, and ran a hand through her tangled black hair, carefully avoiding the mirror in the room. She tossed a sheet over it just in case, feeling her sister at the edge of Her mind. It made her shiver with...not anticipation, and not fear...apprehension.
Only then did she descend the stairs, where she found Silvia and Konrad deep in conversation. She sat beside him and took a slice of the bread and cheese. “Who’s a wizard?” she asked casually.

Silvia was just saying that the mind-reader, the one Ceuntide warned about, was some kind of wizard. And he escaped in the confusion with some kind of red cloak.”

And he escaped in the confusion with some kind of red cloak.” Justine smiled a slightly bashful smile, glancing toward Silvia but leaning her head against Konrad’s shoulder. “Did the cloak seem magical to you at all? I wonder what kind of properties it might have had to aid in his escape.” She thought for a moment, chewing on the bread. “Invisibility?” Her eyes widened and her voice went quiet. “He could be here even now, watching us!” she hissed.
