Silva swallowed a mouthful of bread.
"I don't know for certain what he was, but he said that he was the one who brought me here. I believe him - I was with the rest of you, then I had a compulsion to come here." She frowned. "I don't even remember thinking about doing anything else, so he must have been controlling me."
She took a sip of ale.
"I never thought about the cloak, not really. Enchanted clothing is hardly my area of expertise, and it was in my hands for no more than a minute or two. The fat man told me to bring him the cloak, or he'd blow the place to smithereens, but of course, he had the poor slaves locked up. Saving them was my only concern."

Konrad nodded, “of course you can’t be faulted for that. These people owe you their lives. As for the cloak, it it was an invisibility cloak all the more reason to get off this rock as soon as possible.”

"Yes. There's no reason to stay," Silvia agreed. "I think we'll see that man again, but I hope it won't be any time soon. I just hope our comrades aren't inclined to linger. I mean. we've got to be in agreement about all of this. Or, at least, we have to get Ceutinde and Captain Demeter on our side, since the ships are their responsibility."

“I’m sure they will be. We only stopped here for the storm anyway, I’m sure Captain Demeter would agree to leave as soon as possible, before more pirates show up and Give us round two.” Justine finished her light breakfast quickly and began contemplating taking another slice.

"I hope so. I was looking forward to a nice rest from shipboard life and look what happened." Silva laughed and took another sip of her ale. "The biggest problem will be making sure there's not too much conflict between other members of the group. I was just talking to Konrad about that."

Konrad nodded, and chewed on his bread. Seemed like not everyone was so eager to get a start on the day. Maybe he and Justine should have stayed in bed awhile longer.
He swallowed, “we’ll see what others say or -if they remain abed- just start packing up ourselves.”

Ceutinde strolled down the stairs in a silk dressing gown with tasteful floral embroidery. "Good morning!" Once downstairs, she hurried to Konrad, Justine, and Silvia, hugging them each in turn. "You were all collapsed from exhaustion when we got here last night, so I didn't get to say thank you. You took up my fool notion and succeeded! I owe all of you a debt of gratitude."

Silvia grinned and returned the hug. "We did the right thing. That's the only thing that matters. I didn't do it for the gratitude but I'll take it. Your robe is lovely, by the way. Come and have some breakfast."

Ceutinde glanced at the table. "You sit, I'll have a poke around the cupboards. Not one for ale first thing in the morning." She put a kettle on the stove and rooted around in what passed for a pantry, eventually finding a jar of tea. "If you like the robe, I'll have to get you one when we're back in Bastion. You'd look stunning. Had them made for everyone at the HoP&R, and no doubt our tailor still has the pattern." Leaning on the counter, she waited for the water to boil.

Silvia sat down again. "I'd be grateful for the robe, and the tea as well. We were just talking about what we'll do next. Helping the freed slaves and so forth. I know you'll want to do right by them."

"Yes, of course; my initial hope was to take those that wanted to leave, and help the others set up shop independently, here. But given that an army of pirates tried to kill us just for trying to free them, I'm inclined to get them all out of here as soon as possible. I'd send them back to Bastion on the Tranquility."

"Excellent. That's what Konrad and I were hoping for - it seems like the best option all round. But we'll have to be on our guard now. The pirates might come after us, and that wizard as well, and we have our mission to consider."
