"Shame more men aren't like that." She replied with a smile as she tucked the pistol into her belt. "Thank you."

Kjell breathed out through her nose a little more sharply than usual in mild amusement, gave a small nod when thanked, and moved to the back of the party where she waited for everyone to follow Herneiros into the Mist.

Herneiros looks for a possible avenue that keeps them from having to skirt too close to the cursed buildings.

If they stay far to the left, right against where the wooden docks meet the jagged mountains, they can pass through the town for now, and then head to a fifty foot tower where stairs have been built to let them get above the waterfall blocking their advance toward the House of the Sun. That path, Nigel especially would note, does run the risk of leaving them cut off on the way back.
Herneiros does notice that the Mist isn’t going more than twenty or so feet above the surface of the ground. Anywhere on the Continent it rises thousands of feet into the air, so high he’d never seen an end to it.

Herneiros frowned but didn't say anything. He didn't want to give people the impression that they were out of danger. The Kraken itself didn't actually need to dwell within the Mist to use its power.
"Stay to the left." He declared firmly. "Don't get separated." Herneiros was the last person to feel concern about never seeing civilization again.

“Nonsense,” Nigel dismisses the idea outright. “We take the village and establish a base camp on the beachhead. Else we risk being cut off from our supply lines and from our extraction. You’re Reclaimers now boys and girls. Get read to reclaim this village! For the emperor!”

Thalia could almost feel a stress induced coma begin but pushed it down as she waited for the others to go on ahead, preparing spells in her mind.

"We're not Reclaimers, we're treasure hunters. And the treasure we want is much further inland. If we clear every haunted village we see, we drain the resources we'll need for the ziggurat itself. If we need supplies from the ship, I can just come back myself for them while you camp somewhere safer and less obviously Mist-ridden. Besides..." He pointed to their rivals over the horizon.
"We still have to deal with them."

“Mist-ridden? Bah! It’s barely above our ankles,” Nigel scoffed, motioning to the village. “We reclaim the village and harbor, establish a foothold with a fortified base camp from which to scout ahead, and secure a direct route with unimpeded supply lines to our prize. We will not make the same mistake as our rivals and lose access to our only means of extraction.”
“Now, Mighty Thornhearts, with me!” he drew his sword and charged towards the village. Fortune favored the bold.

Justine drew her sword but just raised her eyebrows and watched as Nigel ran off without anyone. Far be it from her to stop him from charging in like a madman.
“You were saying, Huntsman?” She turned her back to Nigel and the village and gave Herneiros her full attention. It was easier to do when he wasn’t so distractingly nude.

Herneiros wondered if Nigel was going to sucker punch the terrors of the Mist before turning to Justine. "The Mist is only rising so high here. That means there is probably safe terrain if we travel upward. There will hopefully be good hunting and fishing once we reach the top of the waterfall."
He began moving forward. "We must be quick. I can shield everyone here, but it won't last. The Mist always returns..."

Ceutinde did several double-takes between Herneiros and Nigel as both moved away. Eventually she managed to stammer out, "We...we can't just abandon him! He'll be killed on his own." She took a deep breath, adjusted the strap of her bag, and started to follow Nigel. "Condemn him afterward for making the choice on his own, but I came to make sure we all live through this."
