Silvia handed over the rod. "Be careful with it," she said. "It changes colour quite a lot." She turned and scrambled back through the room to the tunnel. When she reached the outside, she started around the building to find Elise or Thalia.

Kjell wasn’t able to grab the slippery thief, and he easily slips past the multicolored lights on the floor and sticks to the solid tiles. Within thirty seconds he’s at the first of the locked doors, which is guarded by a fairly standard normal lock, but he also sees a hastily attached secondary lock which had clearly been hammered in without the machine like precision of the first. The hinges on the door are also slightly bent as though something had once tried escaping whatever room this led to.

Damien looked back at Kjell, "This is not a locked door. This is a prison door. It is holding something in." He pulled out his lock picks and went down to one knee. He studied the locks and started locking for trap mechanisms in the lock itself. He also tried to look through the lock to see if he could see into the other room. He tried looking under the door as well. He didn't expect to see through but he was curious.

He cannot see under the door at all, but the locks are not trapped and time has weakened them as well. He can pop them off in about a minute when he’s ready.

Kjell mouthed a “why” to no one as she walked over to Damien to stop him from opening the bent door something had likely tried to break out of. “How about we wait a while?” she said, ready to detach him from the door if needed. “Or at least try a different door?”

Damien stood and nodded at her, "That is a good compromise. Quite well done. You have diverted this madman." He stood and walked carefully to the next locked door. He was still on guard for any traps or anything out of the ordinary. "You should know though I have vowed as the king of Thieves to leave no prison door sealed. So we will not be leaving until that door is open. Before I do that though you really should back up." He winked at her as he began to explore the other door, doing everything he had done at the first locked door.

This door’s lock is considerably more complex. It features a time lock that had naturally expired centuries ago but also a double combination. Whoever had wanted this locked hadn’t wanted anyone else inside. Even Damien would hVe his work cut out for him with this.

Damien dropped to his knees and began to pray aloud, "Dearest Lady Luck, I bequeath thy to guide my hand as I try to penetrate this old timey lock. It is only through your guidance and the fortune you bestow on me that I will be able to enter where I am not wanted again." He pulled out his picks and set to work. He spoke to Kjell as he began to look for traps before picking the lock. "This is a vault. A truly secure one. I am dying to know what is on the other side."

Damien’s hands work like magic and within three minutes the lock is completely removed. He’s welcome to open the door at his leisure.

“Traps and defense mechanisms, probably,” said Kjell and stepped way, way back.

Damien laughed, "You are a ray of Sunshine in the bowels of this mysterious temple. With your shining presence there is no need for illumination of any sort." He then opened the door just a little bit to see into the room. If there were no obvious dangers like Dragons, Demons or dart traps he would open the door all the way. Otherwise he would close the door quickly.

The door creaks loudly as Damien opens it, and he can’t see anything inside for a second. A long moment passed and then he opened it. There’s a chest of gold which was clearly intended to be payroll at some point in the distant past, the coins unfamiliar. There’s also three books in good condition that seem to be about some sort of sorcery, and a handwritten journal. The journal, regrettably, is in a flowery script that neither of the pair has ever seen before outside of the writing on the outside of the temple.
The final thing they see is a skeleton with a bronze dagger plunged into his chest with his fingers still clenched around its hilt. A crossbow sits behind him with a dozen quarrels that seem relatively unaffected by the immense passage of time. As they search the floors suddenly light up everywhere. They hear a distant creaking and clanking and the faint echoes of the other adventurers.

Damien walk into the room and pocketed the three books. He then walked over to the chest of gold and looks at the coins. "The guardian there had some devotion. I mean sitting her for so long that he decided a dagger was better and cleaner then starving to death. I think he made the right choice. But a much better option would have been saying, fuck my gods. I am going home to sleep with my wife." He flipped one of the coins in his hand and smiled. "It feels just right." He looked back at Kjell, "Do you like gold coins?"

"Sure it was a guardian? Maybe he got trapped here," Kjell said as she made her way to the room once it became clear Damien wasn't going to be blown to pieces or mauled by something emerging from the vault. She leaned against the doorframe and looked around in case there was anything useful in there, like a magic axe capable of killing mist lords, maybe. At his question, she shrugged. "Meh."

Kjell didn’t see anything specifically, but being less distracted by the loot lets her notice that there’s a barely noticeable draft in the room.
