Silvia arrive with the doctor, Archimedes. As they arrived, she said "If you handle the medical matters, I'll keep my eyes and ears peeled for anything of interest. Besides, there might be people who will want to express their thoughts in a more informal manner, and that suits me perfectly."

The doctor nodded as they entered. Inside the temple they see attendants burying some corpses that are swaddled in tight cloths. Archimedes went off to talk to the attendant healers, leaving the songbird alone in the giant cathedral. She heard some servants and guards gossiping in the corner and a soldier drinking entirely too much sacramental wine near the rectory entrance.

Silvia was always intrigued by anyone bold enough to commit an act of heresy within consecrated premises so she sauntered up to the soldier, reasoning that he was probably drunk enough not to mind his tongue.
"Hello," she said cheerily. "Mind if I have a sip of that wine?"

The soldier turned and just handed her the bottle. “Drink up,” he said, “they might bring them back out. You’ll need the courage.”

She grinned at him and took a swig. She was pleased that he already seemed willing to talk.
"Them? What are you talking about?"

He shook his head. “The infected,” he said. “Or cursed, or whatever they are. Give me the creeps. You’d think you wouldn’t feel at risk of getting sick surrounded by healers, but...” he took the drink back and let the fiery liquor burn down his throat towards his stomach, “...sometimes they find the weird ones.” Silvia saw a priest come out with dark red on his robes, the color of drying blood. “If you’re not sick I don’t recommend staying here.”

"I'm not sick," she said. "But I came to pray and I am determined that I shall." It was a lie, of course, but she had to say something. "You intrigue me. Why do you say infected or cursed? The two states are vastly different."

He looked unconsciously at the door then back to her. “I’m no doctor,” he said, “nor a wizard, but I’ve been to the Mists. I’ve seen what happens when dark forces are at work. However it’s manifesting itself...I don’t wish it on anyone.”

She clearly wasn't getting any more information out of him. "Fair enough," she said. "Good luck."
She headed in the direction of the soldiers and servants, in case there was anything to be gleaned there.

The soldiers regard her with evident approval, but the servants seem eager to be out of sight. One of the soldiers is a woman who laughed. “Didn’t get much outta Bottom’s Up, did you?” She asked.

"I got a drink," Silvia retorted. "So it wasn't a waste of time. But to be honest, I doubt he would be good for anything more, anyway. You look look a bit more alert, at least." She grinned.

She nodded. “That I am. A regular all-seeing eye, is Callista,” she added. “Ain’t that my nickname boys?” The other men are too busy looking at Silvia to pay much attention to her words. “You’re here about the villagers I imagine. Terrible story, that. They’re all gone now it looks like.”

"Gone?" Silvia asked. "Gone where? To safety or...elsewhere?" She wondered if all of them were on their way to the House, or if some might have moved on. "To be honest, this illness, or whatever it might be, is beyond my sphere of knowledge, but I came at a friend's behest, to learn what I could."

Callista shook her head. “Gone to the world beyond,” she said. “Or the emptiness of death. But, you know,” she leaned in, “one of them was saying something about monsters before they fell unconscious. Fish people, I think it was.”

"Fish people? That sounds like something out of a ballad," Silvia murmured. She wondered if they were still talking about the same thing. "Please tell me everything you know, so I can report back to my friend."
