"Well would you look at us," Demetrius said, his mood lightening despite the somber conversation topic. "Just a couple orphan kids who are still trying to figure out how we fit into this world. After all these years, you would think guys like us would just learn to let it go and stop searching." He laughed at the coincidence of it all, before turning more serious and continuing, "That's why I have to get to Lake Arawn, that's why I asked your father if he knew where it was. There's something there, below the surface, and I have to find it. I can't explain how I know, if I told you you'd call me insane. But it is there Herneiros, and the Mist is protecting it from reaching the light of day."

Herneiros listened carefully before asking, "So how did you find out about Lake Arawn?"

"I was told of it's existence," Demetrius started, reluctantly. "By two spirits... or demons... I'm not sure exactly." He struggled to find the right words to rationalize what had happened to him down at the waterfront. "Whatever they were, they drew me too them, and told me I had to seek out the lake if I wanted to understand the secret of the mist. Earlier, when you told your father that they were man-made, I knew there was something different about you and our meeting couldn't simply be coincidence. Now, to hear of the experiences we shared as children, it seems as if it were fate that we are here having this conversation."

Herneiros considered this story. "Hmmm... these demons... did they appear in Bastion or in the Mist itself?"

“Bastion,” he said.

"Hmmm... then they weren't created by the Mist. Nothing that grows in there can survive without it. Justine and I have encountered Mist sorcerers trying to manipulate it. At least two made it to safety. Perhaps they were your demons..."
