"Yes." Silvia frowned. "We should have done it then, but let's not dwell on what might have been. We should focus on the problems we can fix. Unless...Ceutinde, can you ask your eyes and ears to keep an eye on the place while we're in Edysse?"

She nodded. "Of course. If they move, we'll know it. Not to mention seeing comings and goings for a few weeks will surely help us figure out what exactly we're up against."

"It sounds like that is the best we can do for now. Unless either of you has another idea?" She thought for a moment. "What about our other campaign. has that developed much?"

"Not as yet." Best not to worry either of them yet with Carl's findings of knives for hire flowing into the city. "But I had thought, it might not be a bad idea to bring the girls with us - if they're willing, of course. A life in Edysse might be quite a bit safer until things blow over."

Justine slowly nodded. She had been resigned to leaving the man to whatever fate he was destined for the moment they left the house. Thinking of him again was...very hard. She ran the effects, likely his, through her hands and put them back into the pouch. She pinned the watch to her clothes.
“Um, yes,” she said suddenly, as if suddenly emerging from a dream. “We should take them. And we should go at once, I think. In case they have a way of tracking thieves like us by magic.”

"I'll need to grab some things from my lodgings," Silvia said. "I'll need money and I certainly meet the emperor dressed like this." She waved a hand at her clothes.
"Let's arrange a time and place to meet up again. Although...what about Thornheart? We were supposed to be travelling with him. We should leave a note and he can catch up to us when he's ready."

"We'll need to rent carts and tents for the gaggle of young ladies. It'll come at a premium, but I'm sure we can find something last-minute. I'm mostly packed." Ceutinde gestured at several trunks, one still open, in a corner of the room. "Yes, I'll send a note to Nigel. He'll be ever so disappointed to miss our company, no doubt."

Silvia grinned. "I'll bet. A whole crowd of ladies and no men to share the attention. That sounds like Thornheart's idea of paradise."
She sipped her drink. "Why don't I head back to my lodgings and you two meet me there with the carts? Your name will get results more swiftly, I'm sure."

Justine remembered her drink and drained the now-lukewarm black tea. Ugh.
She agreed. “I have few enough things. And Ceutinde is nearly done...I have the feeling mr Thornheart will have far more than any of us at this rate.” She smiled, if only to stave off the dread. “Til tomorrow then...try to sleep, too. I doubt I’ll get any.”

Ceutinde laughed as an idea came to her. "Something's just occured to me. I'd meant to make it a surprise for you, Justine, but I've made some modifications to a carriage. The sort of magical modifications that make it a fair bit bigger inside than outside. Quite a comfy bed and sitting room in there, now. It would still be too cramped to keep everyone in for the whole trip, but we could load most, if not all, of the girls in long enough to get out of the city, then rendezvous with some rented carts a couple of hours down the road. Just a bit of misdirection for anyone watching to see them leave."

“”Bigger in the inside, then?” Justine couldn’t help but be a little amused by that. “That should do nicely to throw off the scent. Unless they’ve got a track on the necklace or something.”

Ceutinde shrugged. "If they do, might even cause some confusion to throw it in what's technically an extradimensional space. Probably a good thing I didn't spring for a diviner to put in functional magic windows."

"It sounds delightful," Silvia remarked. "A girls' trip. We could play drinking games, paint each other's nails, that sort of thing." Her eyes lit up at the prospect. "Honestly, it's been years since I had anyone to do that sort of thing with."
