A dockyard tavern that caters to criminals, prostitutes, and sailors. Upper class people sometimes visit if they feel like slumming it. Silvia Raizer's alter ego, Johanna, is a regular at the tavern.

A black-haired woman arrived at the tavern, with light cosmetics enhancing her features She was dressed simply in a faded silk dress cinched at the waist with a wide sash. She wore a dagger at her hip and carried a satchel.
She sauntered up to the bar and called for ale.

A big fat man took her order and she got a ludicrously sized mug of tan beer. “Lookin’ fed work?” The fat man asked. “We pay real good.” The tavern’s full of degenerates and gamblers of all sorts. “Or if yer a customer then my name’s Rand.”

She was surprised; the proprietors and regulars usually recognised her. "My name's Johanna," she said. "I'm well known, here. I often rent one of the attic rooms for a few days. I've done the Rat a favour or two, in my time."
She took a swallow of beer and looked around for one of her acquaintances.

Rand nodded. “Apologies miss, I’ve heard of ya from the boys talking about how you weren’t around anymore. Just moved here from Oldtown.” Joanna sees a server named Mel she knows. Mel is practically an institution at the seedy establishment. She’s deep in conversation with two men who seem to be arguing. She recognizes some other would-be patrons of hers but none who have the means or hygiene to draw her interest.

"I was travellin', that's all. I've only been gone a couple o' months. Business, you know." She made sure she dropped the crisp enunciation that had been drilled into her since childhood; Johanna was lowborn.
She sauntered up to Mel and put an arm around her shoulder.
"What's the problem here? Care to tell an old friend all about it." She tapped the hilt of her dagger.

“Well hello there Joanna,” Mel said. She was a small mousy girl with curly black hair. “These two gentlemen were just arguing over my virtues. You can help me out by assuring them that I have none to argue over,” she said with a wink and a smile. De-escalation is two thirds of a tavern wench’s job. “Not like you anyway.”

Johanna smiled. "I've plenty of virtues, and maybe a few vices too," she said. "The vices are the part that makes a woman interesting, gentlemen." She sized them up, checking for signs of wealth or influence. "Mind if I borrow Mel for a few minutes? A female problem, you know. I need her to check out my new dress."

Both men are definitely better off than normal patrons and they have knives at their belts. They’re darker skinned like colonists and their clothing is a bit too thin to be local: clearly not designed for the chill weather the Mist brings in. Mel doesn’t wait for them to answer before leading her off. “How’ve you been?” She asked. “It’s been a damned minute!”

"Oh, well, I had some jobs to perform. All hush hush, of course." Johanna winked. "I'll be staying here for a day or two while I do a bit more business. I've got some coin to change, and I need to make some donations. The usual. If you know anyone who needs my help, I'll gladly take suggestions."

She nodded. “There’s a widow down the road, name’s Helretha. She’s got two little ones and some local shitheel is trying to shake her down for money she don’t have. I’d bet she could use some of that old Joanna magic.”

Mel thought a second and then nodded. “A ship came back it long ago with some ladies on board who said pirates had kidnapped them. They’ve made a couple people mad because they’ve been talking about some local highers-up who they think helped leak their ship schedules.”

Johanna's eyes gleamed with interest. "That sounds like something I ought to learn more about. What happened to the ladies?"

Mel brushes her hair behind her ear. “Some went home I think but the ones from farther out are staying near the barracks by the governor’s while his agents investigate. It sounds pretty serious.”
