Before panic was able to truly set in, the little man was gone. She blinked in confusion almost. Had it really been that easy?
“I don’t think he’s really gone, Herneiros. I think he’s just back in the box. Or something. He seemed like he didn’t mind too much.” She peered at the box in her hands with disgust. She looked up at Neera for confirmation. “Is he still in there? Even if he is. I don’t think we ought to destroy it. It’s clearly very powerful. It could be useful in the future.”
“I don’t know if killing him like this would have been worth the price, Demetri. We can do it ourselves. You’re not a little boy anymore.”

Neera has been so nervous sweat soaked through her white dress in places, and she definitely will need a new one. She has red cheeks as she stared at her half-written request then she crumpled it up and stuffed it in her bodice. “He’s gone,” she said after a second. “He got banished to his place of origin...” as she spoke the music box started playing. It was a creepy, sort of jaunty tune. It stopped after a few seconds. “Nope he isn’t gone. Not entirely anyway.” She shivered.

Justine watched the paper disappear into the necromancer’s bodice. Perhaps she should have taken it all a little more seriously. She jumped when the thing started playing music again. “So we could get him back if we needed to?”

Neera just looked at Justine. “That sounds like a good idea to you?” She looked at the box. “We May be able to communicate with him, without actually summoning him.” She threw a cloak on. “I’m not sure having an archdevil’s communication device is wise.” She looked over to Herneiros. “But then maybe it isn’t all bad. It’s possible the box had more than one function. It’s an awfully specific trap otherwise.”

“An arch devil?” Justine stares at the box with wide eyes. “But he looked like just a man.”
“So what do you recommend? I don’t think it’s the type of thing I want to sell. It’s probably safer with me, while only we five...four...know about it.”

Neera looked at it. "I honestly have no damned idea," she admitted. "Surely you don't need to be a trained wizard to understand that that was no man. Men don't usually assemble themselves from a white box like potter's clay making itself into a sculpture." She took a gigantic hit of her pipe. She sniffed. "I still smell sulfur." After a second the other three realize they can too, like it isn't in the air but just in the furthest back of their nostrils, little stronger than the memory of an old smell.

“What would it take to destroy something like that Neera?” Asked Demetrius, nodding towards the box. “No use selling it,” he said to Justine, “We cant unleash that evil on someone else.”

The necromancer looked down at the box and thought. "You'd need a very powerful abjurer probably. Probably some sort of priest too. I've never tried to remove the devil himself from an object nor heard of anyone who has."

Justine shrugged. She knew little of magic, and it was meant to be a memory box. Perhaps that’s how all things such as that worked and who was Justine to say otherwise? And for that...person to be the devil himself. It was incomprehensible still.
“We should destroy it, yes.” Justine readily agreed with her friend. “Can we find people such as those here in the city? Would we even hve a chance of trusting those people?”

"Volcanoes are very handy for this sort of thing..."
Herneiros was absentmindedly examining the decor. "So is there a special store where one purchases these things or do you just collect body parts over time? Also, how much of it is practical and how much is just showmanship?"

Justine raised one eyebrow at the Huntsman as he abruptly changed the subject. “I’m curious as well, but shouldn’t we finish with the task at hand first?”

"I know nothing about priests. I am not sure I know anything about gods anymore... but I know where to find powerful abjurers eager to test their skills..."

"And where is that?" asked Justine, turning toward Herneiros. She felt a strange desire to keep the box. It might prove useful. There were many things she would love to wish away...the Lockharts, the Emperor who had cursed her family to the asylum, her sister (though being truly alone somehow gave her more pause than even destroying the box)...
"My biggest worry is the thing falling into hands that aren't ours."

Neera chuckled as he pointed at the bones. "They're practical," she said. "Necromancers derive power from the dead, so keeping links to...old clients and the like makes it easier to find what I'm looking for." She turned back to Justine. "I can think of some people to give it to," she said. "What I'm...what I'm worried about is pissing that guy off. Destroying the box may make him send his servants to bother us more directly."

"What sort of people would want to keep this?"
Other than Justine herself.
