She shivered in her misery. "I think you may be overestimating his...ability to be reasonable. Your friend must be really persuasive. Why...why are you helping me?" she asked finally. "Not that it much matters."

Johanna smiled. "It's what I do. Someone has to." She considered the widow for a moment. "I need to think about this for a while, see if I can find out some useful information. You mentioned money before. Are you in difficulty there? I can help with that now, at least."

She shook her head. "Uh, I guess, yes, please. It's a lot though...five whole gold after interest. Who even makes that?" She asked.

Johanna didn't bat an eyelid.
"I can give you that much. Just don't ask questions, it's safer that way. I'll give it to you in silvers, if that's alright?"

Helreth's eyes widened. "Of...of course," she said. "Thank you so much, my lady. You're like an angel from the stars!" Johanna heard some people moving about outside. There's a decent chance it's just usual traffic but paranoia is perfectly reasonable.

"I'm not a lady." She frowned as she heard the noise. "Stay as you are, mistress Helreth. I want to see what's happenin'."
She went to the door to see who was there.

Johanna saw three men near the building scoping it out. They have pistols and daggers but they don't seem to be staking her location out specifically. There's some other people in the street but no guards here.

She shook her head. "No," she said. "And the people I loaned from won't hurt me as long as I'm working to repay it. They need money, not murder charges. Why?" She peeked out her small window. "I've seen them around a few times lately. No one knows who they work for."

"I'll see if I can find out. In the meantime, here's the silver. Stay safe."
Johanna counted out the equivalent of five gold pieces in silver.
"I'll look into the matter of your son, I promise, but it may take a little time. I must proceed carefully in order to prevent further difficulties."

She nodded. "All right. Please work as fast as you can. You're a godsend ma'am." She nodded and started crying again.

"I willl do what I can, I swear it. Goodbye, for now." Johanna patted Helreth on the shoulder and departed, carefully closing the door behind her.
She headed in the general direction of the men, keeping an eye on them. She looked to see if any of them were familiar.

She doesn't recognize any of them, but she followed them to a tavern called Jayne's. They entered and headed downstairs toward the basement. It's a real pisspot of an establishment. She would draw every eye in the place looking like she does.

She had some scruffier clothes that would serve but she would have to go back to thw Drunken Rat, first. Unless...she looked around to see if there was anywhere else nearby that she might be able to get some ragged clothing.

The admin never advocates violence...but she could go beat some homeless people or peasants up.
