She was surprised that the other man had come back already. "Please," she said. "This is all a misunderstanding. I just wanted a little fun, and some coin."

“Looks like you got the coin and forgot the fun,” the man noted in his gravelly voice. He took a step forward then the man from downstairs made it up.
“Oh lord Eric it was a misunderstanding,” he said. “We’re hardly going to kill a girl down on her luck in the middle of your sister’s birthday are we?” He opened the potion as he talked and then took a big gulp from it. “Just hand us the wig and get the hell out of here.” Johanna notes to her annoyance that in the commotion her hair had fallen out the back of the hairpiece. “Consider it a birthday present.”
Eric looked at his friend. “You’re too fuckin’ soft sometimes,” he grumbled. He put a hand out for the wig but kept a tight grip on the cleaver.

Johanna's pounding heart slowed to normal. She was confused but she could stand the loss of the wig. Perhaps she would have to adopt a new persona for her altruistic efforts after this, one with a different wig. She cautiously took off the wig and handed it to Eric.
"There you go. Please wish your sister a happy birthday. And as for you, my darlin'," she turned to the man with the potion, wondering what it was. "If we run into each other again I'll stand you a drink one day to say thanks. But I should find a new set of digs anyway so I most like won't be here long."

The still nameless man smiled. “You can repay the silver sometime. I’ll just consider it a down payment.” Eric looked confused but he took the wig and stepped aside.
“Too fuckin’ soft,” he grumbled. “You didn’t even sample the goods did you?” The man shook his head as she was leaving.
“Sometimes the waiting is better than the having.” She’s got a clear path to the door and she can hear the raucous party on the other side.

She turned and blew the men a kiss then walked out of the door and to freedom. She walked away, very quickly, returned to her lodgings in the Drunken Rat where she changed into a plain shirt and trousers then pulled a cloak over herself and headed back to the Laurel Wreath and her real life.
