"Yes, always legendary." She drank and grinned. "You would be late to that game. It was my price for the journey, above and beyond the gold. I am a free woman again, thanks to Searshe." Privately she had several nasty thoughts about the sort of ruler that would come down that hard on an innocent woman and little children, but she didnt exactly have to worry about using her real name anymore. "Then it seems congratulations are in order, Lady de Vair," he gave a short bow. "Well if a woman has all she can ask for and desires nothing an emperor can grant, that sounds like a blessed life and I will not tempt you further."

Nigel looked puzzled by this concept of exaggerating your acts of heroism. "I am certain inspiration will strike on the voyage," Nigel twirled his mustache devilishly. "You will find that I am a muse without equal." "Oh, I don't doubt that," she said, laughing. "You certainly make sure life isn't boring, Thornheart. We shall have to spend a lot of time hard at work but it will be worth it. For the fans." She grinned and saluted him with her glass.

"Not the title, but I'm no longer meant to pay for my father's missteps. A title wouldnt suit us at this point anyway, and the manor, and the land?" She shrugged, even though she again was tempted. "No idea what to do with all of that. Besides, my companion Deme...well, he wouldnt approve of it. I'm sure you know how that is."

“I would appreciate that, I heard he fought the mist with my mistress, Queen Melreth, has he mentioned anything to you about her?” She asked, leaning forward and pouring him a drink, as well as another one for herself, eager to carry on the conversation.

"Well, a word to the wise, the emperor is a mercurial sort, notoriously fickle in his interests," Nigel warned the bard. "But I am certain the Adventurer Extraordinaire and Skylark will find no trouble holding his attention." "Not the title, but I'm no longer meant to pay for my father's missteps. Besides, my companion Deme...well, he wouldnt approve of it. I'm sure you know how that is." "I can't say that I do," Nigel admitted, his eyes for once looking his age as he gazed upon a sad lost little girl. "Had I concerned myself with the approval of others, you would be looking at a much different and much less accomplished man today. Your friend, this Deme, should want what is best for you. You have potential Lady de Vair and should reach for it, because no one is going to do it for you."

He'll surely want to hear about the Nedrassian Sea Serpent, the temple and all the rest of it. Between us, we should be able to set the city ablaze with our glory. But I suspect you and I may be the only ones of our party who care for such things. Well, there's Damien, of course, but I doubt he wants to meet the Emperor."

Justine's brow furrowed slightly. She had seen this once before from him, this strangely human version of Nigel. She wondered how much of him was just an act. But her loyalty was to Demetrius. Being in the asylum together, traveling together for nearly a decade; all of that had forget a bond deeper than any others Justine had ever known, save the one.
Her own demeanor softened toward him as well and she paused in downing drinks for the moment. "I appreciate that. I want a better life than I had before. The gold will go a long way toward that. But I have bonds and promises that cannot be broken, and so I cannot travel with you to Edysse as much as I would like to. I might go on my own later...though an audience with the Emperor will be much harder to come by then."

You are cordially uninvited to accompany me to Edysse and that is final." He flashed a playful smile. "I merely meant that whatever road you travel, do it with your head held high, a Mighty Thornheart now and forever. Live your life as if you are the hero in this story and you will never regret it. And stop to enjoy a roll in the hay when time permits." That invitation was still open at least.

"Oh, I'm looking forward to it," she said. "I shall have to write a verse or two in honour of the emperor, as well. I have every faith that you will choose a carriage that will allow us to travel in luxury. I shall bring a bottle of wine or two. We will need the sustenance. It won't do for the Skylark of Bastion and the illustrious Nigel Thornheart to reach the Emperor parched, will it?" She called for more wine to fill her empty glass. "I look forward to seeing what Nigel Thornheart is like when he is not questing in foreign lands. I'll expect a signed copy of the book, of course. In exchange for singing your praises at court."

It was not an expression often found on the face of Justine de Vair. "I will do just that." She didnt even contest being called a Mighty Thornheart this time. It felt like she was betraying Demetrius, but he wasnt here at the moment and never needed to know. "Thank you for a pleasant chat. I'll leave you to the Skylark." Once more she raised her glass, first to Nigel, and then to Silvia, and then she turned away to converse with the others. Herneiros and Thalia seemed to be speaking in hushed tones, and in Elvish. "Dear me, what could you two be plotting?" she asked interruptingly.

Thalia gave her a glance of annoyance, like you give anyone at a party who derails an interesting conversation, “our favourite books.” If they were talking in elvish it stood to reason they may not want the others to know, since they were not part of it, but then perhaps Justine simply thought they did it for ease, since it was both of their native tongues. “Do you have one.” After speaking elvish again her non native accent came out more strongly, she glanced at Herneiros and added to in elvish “to be continued,”

"Mine is Spring of the Seventh Koi Dragon by the great elven novelist Arteure... it's one quarter high brow philosophy, one quarter historical intrigue, one quarter adventure, and one quarter smut. The koi dragon is used as a metaphor for ambition, with the title referring to the seventh child of an elven oligarch. He schemes his way up the social ladder in a bid to surpass his siblings, but in the end... well, I will not spoil it. There are some very popular songs that take inspiration from it, like 'In Purgatory I Lie' and 'The Secret Pond Where Ambitious Elves Go to Drown' and 'A Good Fisting is What My Lady Needs', all composed by the great composers of their time. Admittedly, I don't really know how to translate them into Imperial without losing the remarkable subtlety intended by the lyricists."
He shrugged. "But you might appreciate the melodies."

Justine very highly doubted that was what they were really discussing by Thalia’s acid tone, but she just shrugged and leaned in conspiratorially to hiss, “I needed out.” She was sure they, especially Thalia, would understand that.
Louder, even as she blanched at some of the titles Herneiros had enjoyed and wondered what weird ass things he and Silvia had gotten up to, she added, “I’ve had the misfortune to only read five books in my entire life. Surely I’ll enjoy more of them now that I have coin and no longer have to focus on being a fugitive. Interesting books though.” She gestured toward Nigel with her head. They would understand...again.

"A bottle? Bah! I'll bring a barrel. Half the pleasure of loot is spending it." He also happened to own a winery, but that was neither here nor there. "And you have yourself a deal."

“You seemed like you were having such a nice time though, smiling and beaming” Thalia said so only Justine and Herneiros could hear, “reading in important if you can do it, it’s where history records it’s mistakes for us to learn from, I dint read many fiction books though.” She nodded, also a bit weirded out by Herneiros speaking so explicitly but shrugged it off, “what are your plans Justine?”
