"A bottle? Bah! I'll bring a barrel. Half the pleasure of loot is spending it." He also happened to own a winery, but that was neither here nor there. "And you have yourself a deal." "That suits me. Generosity suits you, Nigel. I fear I cannot be as generous as that, so you'll have to be content with my company instead. I'm told it's scintillating." She winched cheekily at him. "Maybe I can even make the local ladies jealous, so they are more likely to jump into your bed."

"And I am certain you are in need of some civilized company after your time with the Huntsman," he jested, with a pointed glance. "And maybe it is time I found myself a wealth noblewoman with which to settle down. Your assistance in the matter would be most welcome."

Silvia grinned. "Perhaps it's time for the Skylark to turn respectable at last - become a lady, at least for a little while. I'd point out that I've two sisters but Coraline's deadly dull and would bore you rigid - except for the necessary part - and Jenna, well, she's a paladin. She'd carve you up for breakfast."
She lounged in her chair and took another mouthful of wine.
"My high society connections in Edysse are rusty at best but I'm a different person than I was all those years ago. I have a reputation of my own now. And if all else fails, I can always pretend to be somebody else. A mysterious lady, highborn and wealthy. A beautiful stranger is welcome in every circle."
She had played that role before, when her thievery required it, and she was amused at the thought of playing that role again, perhaps in the presence of the emperor himself...and her own family.

“You seemed like you were having such a nice time though, smiling and beaming” Thalia said so only Justine and Herneiros could hear, “reading in important if you can do it, it’s where history records it’s mistakes for us to learn from, I dint read many fiction books though.” She nodded, also a bit weirded out by Herneiros speaking so explicitly but shrugged it off, “what are your plans Justine?” “He was being nice.” Justine shrugged. “And I’ve had a lot of wine.” She held up her glass and a passing waiter filled it. She stared at it as she lowered it. How was it full again? “I didn’t exactly spend my childhood with a private tutor...anyway, I don’t have plans as such. I think my partner would be interested in something that paid, and I’ll go with him.” She drank again.

She had played that role before, when her thievery required it, and she was amused at the thought of playing that role again, perhaps in the presence of the emperor himself...and her own family. "I have known a paladin or two in my day," he replied, slightly indignant at the suggestion there was any woman too formidable for the Adventurer Extraordinaire. "Once you get them out of all that armor they are the same as any other and I know my way around a breastplate." Nigel just stared blankly as Silvia suggested pretending to be someone else, unsure what the point of fame was if not to be recognized. Obscurity took little effort. "Yes...well we can certainly discuss the best approach on the road. Until then, Skylark." He took his leave to approach the trio of Thalia, Herneiros, and Justine. "Thalia, has the Imperial Academy yet managed to decipher the origin and purpose of those globes we discovered?" he inquired, not seeming to mind if he was interrupting book club with matters of state. "If they are stable enough to travel, I had thought to bring one with me to the capital for the Emperor's scholars to study, while the other remains here in Mariya d'Argentan's capable hands." "And Herneiros," he turned to the Huntsman. "It is all very hush hush at the moment, but I may find myself leading a reclamation campaign into the Mist in two months time. We will need a capable Captain of the Scouts if it is to be a success and based on your commendable performance in our last adventure I was considering you for the post. I would ensure you are well compensated for your troubles."

Justine sat back. She guessed the grownups were talking.

Herneiros considered Nigel's offer carefully. He frankly disliked the man but he knew an opportunity when he saw one. Herneiros was, like his prey, a resident of his Mist and never truly felt complete without it. And two months was a long time.
So the Wild Huntsman merely declared, "I have to return to the Mist before then anyway. If you have a particular target in mind, I can scout the area in advance for you, possibly get a read on a local Mistlord... I can smell one from a mile off."
It wasn't remotely an exaggeration. And they stunk.

“Have you not been receiving the reports you asked for?” Thalia asked him, quirking her eyebrow, “they cannot be moved and investigations have only just started. At any rate, I believe mistress Mariya said not to inform your emperor until we had something to discuss with him.” She commented to him, leaving off the part that Mariya had delegated the investigations, she had a problem continually being interrupted with matters of state at a social gathering, and her face said as much.

And they stunk. "As I said, the objective is a state secret, but if all goes well civilization could have a permanent foothold in the Mist by the campaign's end," he replied, dropping his voice low to an excited whisper. "Can you pass up such an opportunity for glory? A real chance to reclaim what was lost, for both our peoples. When I return from the capital I will call upon you if you are still on this side of the wall. If you are not, well, perhaps we will cross paths again." “Have you not been receiving the reports you asked for?” Thalia asked him, quirking her eyebrow, “they cannot be moved and investigations have only just started. "I believe you mean our emperor," Nigel replied, with a pointed glance at the mage. "The last I checked Lisandre was still a colony and your queen bound to the imperial throne the same as the rest of us. Our efforts, be they martial or scholarly, are for the glory of Innuria."

Silvia rolled her eyes when Nigel suggested he might stand a chance with Jenna. After he moved on, she took out her lute and began to play a slow ballad.

Thalia looked at Nigel as if he had something incredibly amusing, but didn’t reply, the man clearly had no clue, and so educating him was a waste of time. Give the savages their illusions, so long as it kept them quiet. “Any reply to the content of my statements?”

"I am not sure about this glory you keep referring to, but I would settle for my own piece of land I can call my own one day..."

Nigel looked at Thalia like she needed a firm backhand, unamused by her naughty demeanor.
“Well I do not intent to depart until there is something worth discussing. So chop chop Ms. Vedas. Perhaps the task would benefit from fewer dinner parties and a bit more diligence.
“That’s the spirit, Huntsman! We’ll make a man of you yet,” he proclaimed, clapping him on the shoulder. It was clearly he was referring to human as a race rather than simply an adult.

Thalia wanted to inform him that the mages at the academy were still placing their protective spells up, but saw this as an out, she gave Herneiros a hand geasture that in her land meant goodbye, and stood up.
“Quite so.” She walked out still smirking, and left the party
