Led by Master Arcades, the fire elementalists of Bastion live in a strange dome-shaped building. A chimney continually bellows out a thin trail of smoke.

After visiting the spire, Thalia entered the Fire elementals guide to see how they compared to her, she had heard rumours that the elementalists in innuria only focused on a single element, which was insane to her, but she had also heard her ability to control them all was unheard of before her.

A young man greeted her. "Good afternoon madame," he said. "Do you talk to the fire?" He stared at her hair. He sounded somewhat like a cultist.

“To it? No, I just command it,” Thalia said to them, wondering now if she should be concerned, “are you... a student here.”

He shook his head. "No my lady sorry. I'm just here to clean up and the like. Master Arcades is at the Spire, but Mistress Valsharra is here if you'd like to meet with you. I just...uh, I just liked your hair." The academy may be limited in scope, but Thalia can sense that doesn't mean it's lacking power. The smell of fire magic is everywhere in her nostrils.

“You do not see many red haired people here?” She questioned him, looking around the place to see who else was around, l would like to meet her, yes.”

They're alone in the little foyer. He got up and opened the door behind him. "Not like that. No one has hair like that." He swallowed then waved her on. "Follow me," he said.
Down the hall a dozen paces or so he stopped then knocked on a door. "Mistress!" he called out. "A sorceress is here to see you. Says she commands fire." He realized he hadn't actually asked her name then turned the color of her hair.
The door opened a moment later and an exceedingly short brunette opened the door. "Off with you now! That entrance won't watch itself." The lad scurried off and the woman looked up at Thalia. "I'm Ynes Valsharra, senior instructor," she said, "Who do I have the honor of speaking to?"

“My name is Thalia Vedas” she introduced herself, I was interested to meet fellow practitioners if elemental manipulation.” She said with a nod,”it is a pleasure to meet you,”

Ynes nodded. "Where did you study?" she asked. "In the West? Not many elementalists here I don't know." She looked her over. "From across the sea," she concluded. "I've heard tales of the magic out there." She took a seat and waved Thalia to one. A pot of tea was already being boiled. "I'm sure most of it is garbage and hearsay."

“I had my abilities honed in Lisandre,” she explained and looked at her, after all her powers were innate and just improved with study, “am I right in thinking you only teach fire magic here?”

“Yes,” she said. “Every effort we’ve had to branch into other elements has failed. Most of our students take a few courses in another school of magic to ensure we maintain our versatility. For instance I studied spiritualism. Our senior mage is a healer.” She leaned back. “Did you study under Queen Melreth then?” She asked. “The stories of her haven’t left here even though she did.”

“Really, how interesting, I had always assumed it was a lack of desire, not a lack of ability...possibility rather.” She seemed interested in that, but also now wary to show off her own magical ability to control them all, she’d partly come to rub elemental fanatics up the wrong way about their refusal to use other elements, kicking people who were literally incapable of performing such was very different, too petty. Beneath her.
“I did study under the queen, but I have only heard the stories told in Lisandre, I’d be happy to know some she doesn’t tell me.”

"Oh," Ynes said, "for those stories you should meet Leuwinmorgh the Mist Hunter. He and her were old traveling companions long before our parents were alive. I heard they made it all the way through the mountains in the east and met with the King of the Fire Giants. They killed a dragon, won a singing contest apparently," she shook her head.
"All sorts of craziness. The governor got drunk one night at a party and said that they were the reason the Mist hadn't gotten closer in the last hundred years." She got up and took the hot tea off then poured some cups. "Do you take sugar?" she asked. "Or perhaps honey?"

“No, thank you, just the tea,” if there was anyone strong enough to do such a thing, it was Melreth. “I will see him out, can I ask how you teach your abilities when someone comes through, can anyone be taught it from scratch I mean.” She was now more interested to find out about the process.

Ynes shook her head. "Not everyone. There's a test the Academy puts students through before offering to teach them. It helps define areas of strength and weakness. Parents apply to the different schools and Mistress Mariya assigns them based on what she feels is best. After that, just like in Lisandre, it comes down to study and effort, right?"
