“Absolutely, in most cases that’s true.” She did not wanting to lie, but at the same time, she didn’t want to cause outrage any longer, “so there are children more magically gifted than others then? Have you had people who could work fire before you’ve taught them?”

Ynes nodded. "Of course," she said. "Some of us are born sorcerers. We haven't ever been able to isolate what causes it. Parents with no recent history of wizardry can have the strongest mages as children, and vice versa. Mariya's parents were supposedly farmers. There's just no telling what can happen. When did you know you could be a magician?"

“Always really, as far back as I can remember, my father once told me when I was being bathed as an infant I turned the water to ice,” she said laughing softly, “then I melted it,” she felt a bit more comfortable admitting it now she knew plenty of people were born with magical abilities like she was. “How about yourself?”

The sorceress arched an eyebrow at the story. "Interesting," she muttered. "I was six. I burned my father's shed down by yelling at my cat to come down from a tree. Some of us just have it. Others never will," she said with a dismissive shrug. Nothing on earth was half so elitist as a wizard discussing those without the gift.

Thalia nodded, “so is it all elementalists who find it difficult to cross between elements?” She asked, taking a sip of the tea and smiling indulgently at her. She didn’t seem to know exactly who she was, which was refreshing.

"Everyone but the giants," Ynes confirmed. "I've heard of children controlling air and fire but nothing else. And the last one of those died of old age fifteen years ago." She shrugged. "So what's your specialty?"

Thalia frowned, getting a bit of a bad feeling about this, “I don’t really have one... but I prefer fire spells, I suppose... they all have their place, yes?” She said and took a big drink of tea to hurry this up.

Ynes shrugged. “Fire can’t cure everything,” she allowed. “But it cures the most things.” She seemed a bit curious at Thalia’s answer. “No soecialty? That’d be quite a trick,” she said. “You just sort of do everything then?” She asked in a humored tone. She clearly thought she was kidding.

“Yes,” Thalia said, “well the four core elements anyway.” She said taking another large drink, not appreciating her not believing her,no why would she lie, as such she narrowed her eyes slightly.

The fire sorceress realized she was being serious. “Fascinating,” she said. “So do you use one at a time or can you blend them or...” she was clearly unsure how it worked. It was like hearing someone describe how they could walk on the water.

“All really if the mood strikes, I can use them separately, blended, or...” she was going to reveal she could use them all independently at the same time if she needed to, but decided not to, “I always thought others just... chose not to.”

Ynes regarded her as some sort of alien, but it was clear she was trying not to. “You can blend them?” She was flabbergasted. “Lord Rogelio will want to talk to you, I’m sure of it,” she said. She made it seem like she should recognize the name but Thalia had never heard of him.

“Who is that?” She asked, not concerned about not knowng, since she was pretty well known in magic circles and these people had not heard of her, as far as she knew, she and Melreth had not kept her magic a secret.

“Lord Rogelio is a master of a very specific branch of magic that involves...” she tried to find the words, “other planes of existence. He calls himself a Paramentalist. Sounds sort of pompous, doesnt it?” She asked rhetorically. “He lives outside the city though in Bryndamare.” Bryndamare is the castle town that guards the west end of the great causeway connecting Innuria to Bastion and Thessali.

“Well, I don’t really have time to go talk to him.” Thalia said, not really wanting to be studied.
