Thalia looks for the academy and heads to the basement to contact Queen Melreth, expecting displeasure at what had occured.

The Synchronization Orb flickered violet then blue then black for a few minutes, then a miniature representation of Melreth appeared inside the gem. Thalia would be reflected in the same way by Melreth. "A dragon," she said. "I confess I did not see that coming." She never bothered with pleasantries; this is the closest to a greeting that Thalia could expect.

“Nor I,” she said and nodded to the queen, “she intends to hatch more from the eggs she acquired, and has said that there’s a new form of magic to be taught.” Though she imagined Melreth already knew this.

Melreth did actually seem surprised at that. "The dragon blocked most of my...observation spells. I'd say this is a rather old form of magic. Curious. Are you seeking a new teacher?" she asked with a thin-lipped smile. "No wrong place to seek knowledge, after all. I find myself fascinated at what you intend to beseech of the old esper." Her pupils were so large they made the entire eyes look black. "It's quite a journey thought, when the dragon is the lesser of the interesting things encountered. By far, actually."

“I have so much left to learn from you.” Thalia informed her, and inclined her head, “but perhaps, if I can learn it and bring that knowledge home it could be beneficial.” She shrugged, as if it was not important for now, “I presume you are referring to the globe. The academy has them, they are concerned what will happen if the abjuration magic fails, but I am to study them with their mages.”

Melreth frowned. "Hm," she said. "Mariya is right to be concerned. I can sense their power from here. I didn't become Queen by staying close to my teacher," she said. "I demand obedience, not worship. The stronger you are, the stronger Lisandre will be." She ran her index finger in a circle on her chin. "Much was accomplished," she finally decided. "The return of the dragons may give us more options for a counterattack on the Mist. The orbs are a secondary concern. The Mistlords are at war. You have full authority over all Lisandrian forces in Innuria save my dear nephew. He has his own task that necessitates not always doing what you say. When I was young I needed the same sort of ally." She almost smiled. "I'll leave it to you to decide the order of importance of the events on the ground. If everything else fails..." she did crack a very thin-lipped smile now. "Then I can make a diplomatic mission."

“That won’t be necessary I will ensure it is handled,” Thalia assured her, feeling she did not need the lecture as she said she was considering pursuing it, but she said nothing, contradicting Melreth was an exercise in futility, “is Phillip de la Sangre your nephew? I met him earlier today, he seems very knowledgeable.

Melreth nodded. "He is. My sister's great grandson. Takes after her, really. He informed me he worries for your safety thanks to this assassin running amok. I've had no luck discerning information about him from here. That's why we keep those droll little swordsmen around," she concluded. "How did it feel?" she asked. "Did the thrill of combat ignite your blood? I barely remember the adrenaline of it all. The threat of death is an opiate like no other."

“Yes it was thrilling, “ she admitted, “it was interesting to test my powers in a real life setting, I do not think the others would have fared very well had I not been there,” she smitten thinking of all the instances her magic came in useful. “I’ll make sure I keep my guard up, but their motive would be interesting to discern.”

Melreth nodded. “Investigate if you wish. Stay safe. I would be inconsolable if something happened to you. This isn’t your last chance to experience real battle.”

The waste in investment would no doubt devastate her. “I will do, thank you, your grace, I am sure there will be many other opportunities too, but if a person is killing magicians, and innuria is doing nothing about it, someone has to.”

Melreth let her silence speak to her agreement. "Thank you Thalia. Lisandre forever," she said offhandedly as the gem went blank. The queen didn't often offer proper farewells.

Thalia replied despite Melreth going, who knew when she was watching still or not. Then headed out after introducing herself properly to the people at the embassy, and informing them where she’d be staying.
