“Robert?” Simon asked. “Oh yes, he’s a big fan o’yers. Sells wizards their frogs with two heads or whatever the hell it is they use. You need an introduction?” He asked.

"Yes, please. Though I'd be grateful for information too, if you know anything else about him."
She wondered if she dared use her reputation to get on the alchemist's good side, but it was best to be well prepared.

Simon shrugged. “Big patron of the arts, big patron of the ladies,” he added, “but I think he’s getting married soon or something. Always seems quick with a joke and the like. I didn’t peg him for your type,” he admitted. “Figured the Skylark liked people whose blood runs hotter.”

"Oh I do, but sometimes I hear interesting things that might make a new song." She frowned. "I thought Master Robert was already married?"

“Maybe he is...” Simon said. “I honestly mix up his mistresses with his serious girls. I don’t know him well,” he clarified, “just at shows and as a sponsor for musicians. He’s, not to sound elitist, a bit third tier on the influence and wealth list, you know? Another reason you should be interested in Maximillian over there,” he pointed to a obviously wealthy younger man.

"Oh? As a patron, you mean? Maybe." She glanced at Maximillian, speculating for a moment. She would have to stay in the place until Canelo departed. "Perhaps you might tell me about him, Master Simon>"

Simon went to answer but at that moment the woman Robert had been with Sam down the stairs and out the tavern, shrieking incoherently. “Doesn’t sound like that went well,” the luthier said. “Looks like this is your chance!” He laughed.

"Indeed. Perhaps I can speak with Maximillian another time." She lounged in her seat and waited for Robert to emerge. "I shall be sure to treat Master Canelo kindly, poor man. I wonder what's amiss."

“You should head up there,” Simon said. “He’s probably got the entire bar up there for his evening and now has no one to share it with. Seems a tragic abuse of alcohol.”

"So it does. Though from what I recall his taste in brandy could use some refining. I'll speak to you soon, I hope, Master Simon. Good day."
She headed up the stairs and looked and listened for signs of Robert Canelo.

She knows the place well and Robert is right where she’d have expected, drinking his overpriced brandy on the balcony overlooking Moira’s Hill. He turned and saw her coming. “You look familiar,” he said with the slightly too-pleased tone of someone who’s been drinking too much. “The singer right?”

She made him a flashy bow, sweeping her feathered hat off her head in the process. "Silvia Raizer, better known as the Skylark of Bastion. I saw there had been some...awkwardness just now. Perhaps a song would raise your spirits, and no man should drink alone."

The merchant laughed. “Awkwardness?” He laughed and grinned. “Just a failed negotiation over priced! But it seems I came out ahead at the end anyway. The Skylark herself. I’ll be damned,” he was somewhat babbling now. “Well I can’t say I’d turn down the offer of a song, that’s a fact.”

"To be honest, I rarely give private performances," she said. "But I'm feeling generous, and I find that a song always raises my spirits. Perhaps you'll pour me a glass of brandy and tell me what kind of song you've a mind to hear, and then I'll begin. I'm afraid it will have to be an a cappella performance - I didn't bring my lute today."

Robert poured her a brandy. “How about...” he rubbed his chin as he stared at her, “well how about a song about forbidden love?” He said. “Secrets and poison and the like.”
