"I will be certain to procure a proper stipend from the war coffers, as I have no doubt the investment will win both swords and benefactors to the cause," he agreed, knowing that when you won the Skylark to your cause you did not haggle. "Edysse first and we shall decide from there where our tour takes us next. Lady de Vair will be accompanying us as least as far as the capital."

"Yes. I knew she wanted to visit. Her company will be most welcome. You'll be the envy of all the noblemen and officers in the city," Silvia teased. "My old mentor wrote a song about you when I was still a girl, I'll be sure to sing that one a time or two at every place we stop. I'm sure there's plenty of admiring noblewomen willing to throw their coin - and themselves - into your arms. If there's anyone who makes a play for you that you don't care for, just drop me a word and I'll come to your rescue."

"Leave it to the Skylark to be the finest wingwoman in all of Innuria." He did not hide his genuine excitement at the prospect, his youthful energy boundless. "I will be ready to depart at your earliest convenience. No time like the present, after all!"

"Of course. I have a few other loose ends to tie up but I'll send word once I'm ready. It shouldn't be more than a couple of days. In the meantime, I had better get back to work on the new song so I'll bid you farewell for now, Nigel."

"I would be remise not to suggest we retire to my room before you depart," he replied, with a sly grin that curled his mustache. "Start out journey out on a high note, especially if you are to be hard at work without distraction for the foreseeable future."

Silvia laughed. "I should definitely have seen that coming. I suspect I am simply too distracted to be in the mood for such diversions today. Now if I were writing a bawdy song fit for an alehouse, that would be a different matter. I could certainly use the inspiration in that instance. As it is, shall we put your offer on the table for consideration once we're actually in Edysse, or some other destination? There should be plenty to celebrate, after all."
She grinned cheekily at him.

"Counteroffer, let us revisit the offer when we are on the road to Edysse," he winked, not above haggling after all. "The journey is long and the carriage luxurious. I can think of worse ways to pass the time."

"If we were travelling alone, that would certainly be tempting, but Justine will be in the carriage with us and I've no desire for an audience, or a threesome, so don't bother suggesting it. Nor do I want to engage in a quick fumble while she nips out to answer nature's call. If I decide to have sex with you, Nigel, I want a feather bed, red wine and time to enjoy the experience without interruption. After all, you have a reputation to uphold. You wouldn't want to risk letting me down, would you?"

"I do not recall the Huntsman having to put in quite so much effort for a quick fumble," Nigel reminded her, with a raised eyebrow. "I assure you I can accomplish a great deal in a short amount of time."

"Oh, at that point in time a quick fumble was exactly what I wanted," Silvia retorted, wondering if Nigel was jealous that she had chosen Herneiros rather than himself to be her lover during the last expedition.
"Anything that happened between Herneiros and myself is not up for discussion." Nor was anything that might happen in the future.
"Remember, you're Nigel Thornheart and both of us are celebrities. I deserve more than a notch on your bedpost. Still, you've a way with words so I'm not saying no. Let's just see what happens, shall we? The conditions may yet be favourable, and we won't know that until we're actually on the road."

"I will see you on the road then, Miss Raizer," he said simply rather than voicing further protest or argument, as Jeeves returned to escort her from the premises.

She gave him one of her exaggerated bow. "Until then, Nigel. Feel free to dream of me at your leisure."
She blew him a kiss and followed Jeeves.
