Gregori looked a bit miffed at Roxanne. “Ceutinde is one of the most powerful women in Bastion,” he said. “Why would we expect you to be entertainers? We pay for our entertainment.” Jon waved off Ceutinde’s concern.
“You’ll be fine. Cerberus just makes sure that enemies of ours don’t infiltrate the area. Gangsters and assassins and the like.” He thought a second. “And that Thornheart chap.”

Silvia smiled sweetly. She was genuinely puzzled as to why they had been invited to the club. It all seemed very strange to her.
"Thornheart?" She asked. "So he would never be permitted to enter Rhianne's? Is there any particular reason? I thought he was a great hero."

Ceutinde gave an honest laugh for the first time that night. "Nigel? He's an idiot, but I can't imagine he'd be an 'enemy'. Who did he piss off?"

“A silence spell can’t make him stop talking,” Gregori said shortly. “Hard to have a private club if someone runs around blabbing about it, eh?” He patted her knee in a slightly over-familiar way. “But you all know better.”
Jon just arched an eyebrow and took another drink, which Ceutinde believes is strawberry wine. “Honestly I think they want to add some more fresh blood anyway. You know how stale the same old people can get.”

"I suppose that's true," Silvia said. "So what do you do at the club? Drink and talk? And make business deals?"

Gregori made a motion with his hand like you’d calm a cat with. “So many questions,” he said. “Don’t you all have fun in Valgard? Have a drink and relax a bit.”

She took a sip of wine. "It's not every day a girl gets invited to an exclusive club," she said, all wide-eyed innocence. "I can't help but be curious. Daddy used to say that I asked too many questions. I am flattered, of course, but I'm surprised that you cared enough to invite me. I'm hardly a successful businesswoman."

Ceutinde leaned back in her seat and answered Jon with a smile, "I know very well. And I'm happy to serve as the most interesting person in the room simply by virtue of being the newest." She put a hand on Silvia's knee, loosely intending to imply that she should not get too violent toward Gregori yet.

“You’re the Lady Ceutinde’s friend...” he shrugged. “And you have what us businesspeople call intangibles.” Jon finished his drink as Ceutinde talked.
“You’ll be one of the more interesting ones anyway,” he said. “You have a mind that has more rolling around in it then an endless pile of little gold coins to sit on like some covetous dragon.” He relaxed against the seat. “We should be getting there soon, fortunately.”

Ceutinde rolled her eyes, just saying, "Flatterer," to the compliment, and started to turn toward a window when he commented they were getting close before remembering that, of course, there were no windows. "That was quick. I'm assuming there's some sort of time magic going on with the carriage? Makes sense, to shorten the ride for the passengers. Wouldn't want us getting bored."

Jon looked to the side as he considered that. “It’s possible,” he admitted. “I honestly haven’t ever considered that before.” A minute or so later the door opened and the footman smiled. “Out out out!” He said cheerfully. “And welcome to Old Rhianne’s!”
Roxanne and Ceutinde see a bright sun shining in and water lapping against the sand about twenty meters from the opening. Jon and Gregori wait for them to exit.

Silvia was intrigued but a little nervous too. She got out of the carriage, wondering why the gentlemen did not offer their assistance as gentlemen should. She held out her hand to help Ceutinde.

Ceutinde stepped out gingerly, taking Silvia's hand and peering around to attempt to discern how they were suddenly apparently on a beach at mid-day.

The women step out onto a poorly maintained road that only goes another fifty yards or so before running into the resort, which has an outdoor bar overlooking the sea to the south and East. They see a couple of cabanas north of the other larger buildings that the guests apparently sleep in. “Quite a place right?” Gregori asked rhetorically. “I guess we’re the early ones.” Th e two women can judge by the sun it’s about two hours until twilight. “Let’s get a drink,” he suggested as they walked toward the bar, which right now has only a few people on it.

"All the cloak and dagger shenanigans seem a bit much," Ceutinde said as she bent over to remove her heels, preferring to go barefoot on the sand, "When any one of us could surely sail down the coast and find the place again."
