The ‘snikt’ sound her family sword makes as it exits the sheath is momentarily reassuring. The raspy creature nearby hears it even over his own tortured breathing and the ladies hear it rush towards them. It’s time for violence.

It couldn’t hear us speaking but it heard that? Justine’s thoughts raced as she raised her sword in front of her and tried to move quickly, defensively, resolutely for the door.

Justine: 155/98/112 Silvia: 121/177/165
The Rotter: 137/144
The ladies separate so they don’t cut each other and the advancing beast lumbers right into their waiting blades. Justine’s rapier goes right through the strangely sodden flesh and right out its back while Silvia’s dragon-jilted cuts deep into the beast’s side and her dagger sticks into where its rotator cuff should be.
The beast seems to not feel pain as it grasps for them with each hand, a death like chill settling over the pair as it grips Justine’s left arm up by the armpit and a fist slams into Silvia’s chest.
The Rotter takes 84 damage Justine takes 16 damage and loses 5 strength Silvia takes 12 damage and loses 5 strength

Silvia drew her own blade and settled into a fighting stance.

Justine shivered as the thing touched her. Only then did she start to admit to herself that this thing was other than human. It was like a thing of the mist but...there was no mist. She kept moving toward the door. Even if she just opened it to shine a light...but she really didn’t want to see it, she realized.
She went in the offensive, pulling her other blade and slashing at the thing as she moved in.

Justine: 129/147/98 Silvia: 91/152/122
Rotter: 98/166
Justine’s rapier jabs in and out and in and out on the creature as Silvia’s blade hacks through an arm. It hits her one more time as it collapsed into a disgusting pile of gooey mess and random jumbled bones.
Silvia heals 4 damage and takes 11, 10 total strength lost for now
The women are at the door and they hear the patrol not that far off. If they exit they’ll almost surely blow their cover. The beast had fought in relative silence so it’s entirely possible they haven’t been heard. They’ve lost track of the larger shadowy figure but they do see a small lantern next to the door with a match next to it.

“What the fuck was that thing?!” asked Justine, wiping her blade (ugh) on a corner of her short cloak. She got close enough to the door to pick up the lantern and the matches, but didn’t light them yet. She listened to the guards pass.
“Silvia, what do you think about going back? And taking that necklace as a souvenir of the evening?” She grinned, not that Silvia could see in the dark.

Silvia wiped her blade clean too. She had learned recently that it was pointless to be surprised by the strange things that she had begun to encounter in her life.
"I'm game," she said. "We might as well get something tangible out of the night. Has this trip been useful in other ways?"

When the guards had passed, Justine struck the match and lit the intern. She held it up to survey the room...and to see the corpse of whatever it was that had come for them.

The corpse before them is a wretched nightmare of decay. It looks like someone had seen various ill-fitting body parts together into one strange necromantic nightmare. The room they’re in is mostly empty save a table in a corner with a pitcher of drinking water and some cups. There’s stairs leading farther upstairs but still no sign of the strange shadow-man.

Silvia made a face. "Disgusting," she said. She looked at the corpse to see if it had anything worth looting.

“Thats...a thing.” Justine gave it a wide berth as she looked around the room. She peered up the stairs, holding yhe lantern up to see how far they went or what was at the top. “It came from up here.”

The stairs go up fifteen feet or so and end at the top floor. They spiral around a narrow pole so it’s hard to see what else is up there. The liquified remains of the beast hVe nothing worth looting unless Silvia wishes to collect its ichor to sell to some crazy wizard.

Silvia decided not to take the ichor. She followed Justine. "Horrid thing. I suppose some necromancer was involved. Not that I've ever met such a person."
"Let's get the necklace and get out of here."

Justine looked back down at Silvia for a long time. “I met a necromancer once. Lovely lady, really...anyhow, it would be a pity not to go on. The thing came from up there...and the guards passed by a moment ago so if were quick we can just have a look and then run from here...” she started up the stairs.
“Do you want to go grab the necklace while I have a look see up here?” She went up a few more. “This will be the last one I promise,” she added like a child trying to do one more fort nite match before bed.
