Silvia rolled her eyes at Cassandra. She'd thought she was long past the period of having to actually audition for performances.
"You're asking me to audition? You know my name, so you know perfectly well that I'll bring in audiences."

The lord smiled. “You don’t need to audition for the festival,” he said. “Not every performance has to have a crowd. They tend to be my favorite ones,” he added. “And then I shall have a chance to prove myself...worthy.”

She laughed. "Yes, my lord, you shall be the one auditioning for my favour," she teased. "I am very happy to be here, honestly. Cassie has always spoken well of you. Might I introduce my travelling companions at your convenience too? I know you'll find them interesting."

“If they’re anything like you, I suppose I don’t see a problem,” the lord said with a smile. “You’re a swordswoman too, I’ve heard. Unless that’s a...artistic flourish in your songs I’ve heard so much about.”

Silvia returned the smile.
"Not at all. I'm an excellent swordswoman, and that's no exaggeration. Justine is a swordswoman too, and Ceutinde is the loveliest person I know. Nigel is...well, you have to see for yourself if you don't know him already, but I think you'll be interested in his current activities. I don't want to affect your perception of my friends before you meet them, so that's all I'll say for now."

Arslan’s face abruptly shifted at the mention of Nigel. “That one can stay in the city.” He went on as though that had never been said. “Everyone else sounds lovely. How does tomorrow evening sound?”

"Lovely," Silvia said. She desperately wanted to ask if someone Arslan cared about had been seduced by Nigel, but that would have been supremely tactless, so she didn't ask.
"On a slightly different topic, my lord, I did think that you might be interested in our efforts to recruit more soldiers for the Emperor."

Arslan nodded. “More soldiers,” he said, “but probably not for what I need them for. I’m tasked with destroying the Death Knight, and splitting our attention has made accomplishing either task before us impossible. We need to crush them first then move into the Mists to reclaim what’s ours.” Clearly he had had this kind of talk before.

"I'm no strategist and I don't know the details of Thornheart's mission," Silvia replied. "But I promised to help recruit more soldiers. I simply thought that a man of your reputation might be interested. But it seems like you have your hands full already and I don't care to fight a losing battle."

The lord nodded. “I’m sure there’s layabouts somewhere to be found, but I simply don’t have the ability to recruit another army now.” A messenger came in and whispered into his ear, then took off at full speed. “Apologies,” he said, “something has come up. Tomorrow evening?” He asked again to confirm. “And there’s three of you, yes?”

"Yes." Silvia felt a little guilty that Nigel hadn't been included in the offer, but it wasn't up to her to fix whatever problem lay between Nigel and the lord. "Tomorrow, then, my lord."
