Background: Konrad's father Maximilian was a renowned and successful Reclaimer, who made tremendous wealth after discovering (and less politely-pillaging) an extensive barrow guarded by a powerful undead lord. Returning to Bastion in triumph, he invested the money in a series of ventures, almost all of which likewise struck great fortune.
He quickly wooed (or was wooed one might say), and subsequently wedded Sophia, the only daughter of Pegarius Lascaris of Edysse, who was serving at the time as the Emperor's Protasekretis (first secretary). Pegarius had nearly bankrupted himself in acquiring the position, and needed the infusion of cash the rich Reclaimer could bring. So he sent his daughter to seduce and woo young Maximilian, which was not terribly difficult, as Sophia Lascaris was both notoriously gorgeous and witty. Once wed, Maximilian set about building an appropriate home for his beloved wife, acquiring a sizable piece of land, and constructing Wolfhaven upon it. While Maximilian saw to it the new manor was well-fortified and sturdily built (bringing in dwarves for the job), Sophia made sure it was beautiful and well appointed. Soon Wolfhaven was the talk of Bastion, and anyone who was anyone wanted an invitation to one of Sophia's regular sumptuous and impressive feasts and events.
Their only son, Konrad, was born shortly after, and raised to be a scion of true aristocracy, learning grace and refinement from his mother, and the martial arts from his adventurer father. Konrad was sent away to Edysse to join the Academi, and receive a fuller education, but returned upon receiving the news of his parent's untimely demise. Both were found dead in their bed, desiccated and drained as if by a massive spider.
For the next four years Konrad has remained at Wolfhaven, the sole heir of a substantial estate. He continues to host events (as his mother would have wanted, even in death one can't allow one's social standing to slip!) and all the noble families angle to insure that their available daughters receive invitations. Although Konrad has reportedly remained polite and charming, he has so far also remained ultimately beyond grasping reach.
