As Roxanne waited she saw Marcus stumble in laughing. He winked at her. He winked at her and she saw two of the servers talking to a violent-looking man and pointing at her. Her mind went to the disturbed knife. Silvia frowned when the servers spoke to the man. She realised that they were the ones who had dared to rummage through her clothing - how dare they - and that meant she was in danger, and possibly Ceutinde too. She smiled innocently at Marcus then hurried over to Robert and his wife. Robert at least was familiar, and not her enemy, and knew that her presence at the club had not been planned. "Hello," she said, remembering to adopt Roxanne's breathy voice. "Please forgive my interruption but do you know where Gregori is? I am lonely without him. May I join you until he returns? Or perhaps you can take me to him?"

Robert stopped and smiled. “Roxanne! Of..of course I can,” he said. “My dears, do go on without me. I’ll only be a minute.” He got up and headed toward the door. “Are you having fun?” He asked. As he was taking Silvia saw the armed man slip out the other side. Her stone burned against the bottom of her breast. Something had detected it again.

“Would that bother you?” Olivia asked. “But no, it isn’t too often. He has better things to do apparently,” she said in mock frustration, tossing her hair over her shoulder. “I think it’s high tome he brought in someone interesting.” She kissed her again. “But I’ve got to get back to work. Those taxes don’t pay themselves!” Jon chuckled as she got up. “A ringing endorsement if I’ve ever heard one.” "Somehow the last thing I expected was that anyone here pays taxes." Ceutinde said with a smirk as she watched Olivia leave, leaning back and continuing to trace shapes on Jon's thigh. "So what exactly is it that you do, Jon the Enchanted Giant?"

As he was taking Silvia saw the armed man slip out the other side. Her stone burned against the bottom of her breast. Something had detected it again. "I am, but perhaps I ought to consider going home. I obviously don't belong here. I'm not clever and I'm not going to inherit a business, either. I feel all at sea, honestly." She smiled sadly. "I'm worried that Gregori will lose interest the next time he sees me. Tonight has been...special, but I don't think the magic of the evening will last." She was beginning to think that escape would be a good thing after all. With Marcus around she couldn't be sure of her disguise, and the servants had clearly discovered her knife.

Jon turned and looked at her a moment. “I run a...specialized security company,” he said. “To make that sound less disingenuous me and mine are prospectors. We find islands and turn them into places that can generate a profit. Mines and spice fields and the like. Or I did anyway. I decided that was hard work and being at sea all the time got tiring so I took my talents in a different direction.” He ran his hand farther up her leg. “One that gave me a lot more time to explore the finer things in life,” he concluded as he kissed her.
//
Robert listened to her and stopped on the walk. “I don’t think the carriage is coming back until tomorrow unless you ask Hades or Cerberus. They’re the only two who can call it,” he added. “Jean’s the only one who didn’t ride here. If you’re not having a good time you can stay in my cabana. My wife and I usually don’t end up using it anyway.”

She leaned close and whispered "Besides, you are so much nicer than he is, I know I can trust you. Gregori seems like the kind of man who might do something bad to get what he wants."

Ceutinde pushed back just a bit when he started, before deciding to let it happen. Jon seemed a decent enough sort, at least compared to the rest of the crowd of wealthy criminals. And who knew, it might make him open up a little more. The hand that had been on his thigh moved farther up it, and the other grabbed his shoulder to pull him closer. "It's been a while since I was with a man who was actually taller than me." She said with a laugh when they eventually came up for air.

Robert rubbed his jaw as she talked. “That’s the wisest thing you’ve said all evening,” he noted. “But Gregori is more a pawn of more powerfully-minded people than he is a threat himself.” Roxanne wouldn’t consider it but Silvia was well aware that descriptor could easily apply to him. “But he’s not the worst sort, really.” He waved her toward his cabana. “The doors here don’t lock and even if they did they’re easy enough to open but he won’t bother you there. I’ve got another girl for him to drool over anyway as he tries taking his mind off his other problems.”
The cabana is about twenty feet on a side and clearly not meant for long term habitation, but for a relaxing few days on a beach it would suffice. “Is there anything you need before you retire?” He asked.
//
“There aren’t many of us,” Jon agreed. “At least there’s will be something memorable about me,” he joked. He tugged to get her full onto his lap to continue.

Ceutinde acceded, lifting one long leg up and over the table and managing to arrange herself facing him on top of his lap without too much awkwardness. She said breathily in his ear, "Memorable? Don't tell me you're already planning on this only being a one-night-only affair. That would be downright caddish, sir."

Jon shrugged. “I wouldn’t dare presume how many nights I may get,” he said. “People who live like us know how fast things can change.” His hand ran through her hair as he kissed her again, much harder than before.

""Thank you. I appreciate it." She smiled sweetly. "I don't need anything, but I do have one last quystion before you go. Why are you two friends? You're worth ten of him."

“Not in gold,” he said simply. “We can’t always choose everyone we ally with.” He waved her toward the cabana. “Sleep well,” he said. He headed back toward the tavern.

She took off her knife and undressed. Clothed only in her undergarments, she settled down to sleep.

The next morning Silvia got dressed, making sure she put on her dagger, and slipped the magic stone into her bodice, then headed to the bar to find out if breakfast was on offer.

The bar area is mostly empty; no one is awake after a night like they’d had. Silvia sees a server and a cook and the tremendously fat mage Marcus.

She headed over to the cook. "Good morning, " she said brightly. "I'd like to order breakfast, if I may. Eggs and bacon would be delightful if you have them, but buttered toast will suit me if not."
