Zavier frowned. “I don’t know,” he said, looking around. “Maybe because I’m a native Innurian and not one of you squatting Imperials?” He joked. She rolled her eyes. "Are my eyes glowing too?" She gazed with awe at the strange scene all around them. "Maybe it's because of your family? What they are? I-oh!!!!" She saw the tower appear, and the rest of it as well, and let out a long sigh of longing. "What is this place? Could we...take a closer look?"

Justine nodded. She had seen and heard many strange things (indeed her head still hurt from whatever Strange thing had happened last) but this was unlike anything else. She joined him tentatively at the railing. “What do you think happened to all the people? Drowned or...worse?” She turned her head again to Konrad. “Do you see something we don’t?” She asked, following it a moment later by another: “Goodness, what happened to your shirt?” Konrad covered his breast with his hand, "it was a minor misunderstanding," he said softly, before gesturing out at the water, "Look at that symbol... does it mean anything to you?" When she did not recognize it, he leaned in an whispered something to her.

Zavier looked at the new citadel. “I mean...that seems insane, right? Aren’t there supposed to be like dragons guarding it or something?” As he spoke, the first serpent came up, staring at the vessels from an ever higher height. Its head is roughly the size of a noble man’s carriage, and its teeth are closer to a viper’s fangs than any other creature’s that come to mind. Its scales glisten and drop and surprisingly in the light they are clearly multicolored, shimmering like jewels. The colossal beast seems curious rather than aggressive.

“Well I hope the other guy made it out worse. Sorry about the shirt, though.“ The irony of her apology was lost in her earnestness.
When she heard him, her eyes opened a little wider. “All the way out here, though,” she murmured, watching the tower rise. “We’ve got to be really far from the mainland now. And I’m not sure many have sailed this far...well, not many who made it back.”
The wreckages of the other ships loomed large as she spoke...But not as large as the serpent who now eyed their ship. Justine loosed her sword in the scabbard, though she did not draw it. “And that would be why...”

"Wow!" Sylvia's knees almost buckled in wonder as she beheld the serpent. It was oddly beautiful (and she had never particularly liked reptiles) and she felt a curious urge to reach out towards it.
"Look," she whispered to Zavier. "I don't think it means us harm. Perhaps it's lonely, poor beast." She stepped closer to the rail, gazing up at the serpent, as enchanted as her younger self had been by the famous bards that came before her.

"She got a few licks in, but I'm still standing," he replied knowingly. As the beast began to eye down the ship, Konrad felt suddenly compelled to take action, and began to move forward towards the beast, his hands up wide above his head and away from his weapon.
"πάρτε αυτό που είναι δικό μας!" He yelled in the language of the Imperial court, waving his arms so the beast would see him. "πάρτε αυτό που είναι δικό μας!"

Justine began to move away from Konrad as he began to call to the beast. “Are you sure that’s the best idea?” She hissed.

"NO! I am not!" He yelled over his shoulder, before turning to the beast again, "πάρτε αυτό που είναι δικό μας!"

Silvia heard Konrad yelling. She had no idea what he was saying but she'd be damned if she would stand idle while someone else got all the glory, so she ran to join him, and to get closer to the magnificent serpent. She had her sword at her hip but kept it sheathed. Her breath quickened with anticipation.

He turned to Silvia, "the glowing purple symbol.. in the water. It's the imperial family's personal sigil. Take What's Ours -πάρτε αυτό που είναι δικό μας- is their personal motto. I'm hoping the Serpents have some connection to them, and will spare us if they know we are aligned with the Emperor."

She tore her eyes away from the serpent with reluctance. "Oh! Yes, that's a good idea. Keep trying." Then she swore foully. "The bauble! We were playing with it." She waved to Zavier, beckoning him over.

The serpent narrowed its eyes for a moment, then rotated his gigantic head toward the ruined city, then back toward the young lord. The purple light fins over the shell and more and more serpents rise. “I don’t think it’s lonely,” Zavier whispered.
The Nedrassian Serpent suddenly curled in on itself and its fang dig under a scale and popped it out. Then it plucked it from the water and dropped it onto the deck.

“Of all the things...” Justine muttered under her breath. She moved slowly toward the massive violet scale on the deck to see if there was anything odd about it...other than the fact that this giant serpent had just plucked it for them from its own body.

Konrad went over to examine the scale and see if there was anything to be learned from it.
"I think it might be giving us this as a badge, so we can pass by in safety," he said, more hope than certainty in his voice.

"Wonderful. I can scarce believe it." She looked at the serpent again, wondering at its behaviour, at the glowing light and the fact that Zavier alone had not glowed. "I think we summoned it, Zavier and myself. Not on purpose, but it seems the most logical explanation."
