The entire bottom floor reeks of necromancy and Mist magic.

“The basement reeks if necromancy, we should find another way in, or wait fir the others.” Thalia said to Nigel, then looked at the others, “maybe we can get in through the ceiling?” She suggested to the others,

Tehol again points to the roof then his dagger and again to the roof in agreement. He then starts moving back up the stairs not caring who was going to follow him.

“If things get dire, close and bar the door behind me,” Nigel instructed simply, before walking into the room without another word, stepping over the weapons of the fallen.

Juliette, who had definitely been paying attention the entire time, was also present. She watched Nigel once again dive headfirst into whatever it was and merely raised a single eyebrow. “Well then, onward. There’s nothing left to do, I don’t think.” She held up her torch and followed.

Nigel felt the squishy goo under his feet and it slightly stuck to his sabatons like bubble gum would have in another world. The smell grows progressively worse as he passed through the short tunnel and got to where it opened. As he stepped in a light shone at the top of the room about twenty feet up and sixty feet away from him, illuminating the entire area.
“Welcome back,” a pleasant female voice said from nowhere, “I’m afraid level two has suffered catastrophic failure. Subject Qareen has free range of the grounds. Subject Djinn’s secondary restraints remain active. Sanitization recommended.” The sludge began flowing in a muddy grey river to the other side of the chamber. There are a dozen or so load bearing pillars and at the far end is a hole in the floor where Nigel can see a giant arm about eight feet long rising from, clearly still shackled at some point. It has gigantic claws at the ends and the magical restraints are clearly having all they can take in trying to keep it under control.
Nigel also notices there’s a hallway at the exact opposite end of the room behind the collapsed cell and some sort of skeletal dragon or similar reptile whose remains are in the corner to the left. All told the room is about a hundred fifty feet long by half that wide.

Tehol after seeing that literally no one paid him any attention just turns back around to rejoin the group wondering where the hell they went off to now.

Still keeping pace with Nigel, Herneiros stares in fascination at the dragon bones before responding to the voice in his best Imperial voice, "How long has it been since my last visit?"

The voice doesn’t reactivate. Either it has a trigger or age has diminished its capabilities.

"I thought this was a temple," Ceutinde piped up from the back again, "But restrained subjects make it sound more like a prison, or a menagerie, or...or a laboratory. What sort of gods did these humans worship?"

"Probably themselves," replied Herneiros before exploring further.

Zavier looked about. “If there were gods here it looks like they died a long time ago.” He watched the struggling beast. “Should we end its misery?”

The massive arm lunges for him but he’s able to avoid it before looking in. Its a large beast shaped something like a gorilla, but with six spindly legs and four of the massive arms tearing for freedom. Its chain is considerably longer than one would reasonably suspect; it has already torn through at least one layer of thick stone ceiling before this and so the restraints must be over a hundred feet long. Its crystal-like eyes reflect the marine’s face back at him a hundred thousand times. It looks, quite frankly, like a Mist monster.
