Herneiros growled, "Get behind me..."
He drew his bow and arrow, and took up the vanguard against whatever ancient horror might lurk within.

“They’re in another vault on the other side of this place,” Kjell said in response to Ceutinde’s question. “I tried to get them to turn back and join you here, but... I believe the last things they said were ‘I can’t leave that door unopened’ and ‘See you all when I’m legend’.” She shrugged as if to say she didn’t know what that last line had meant, either.
She got her rifle ready and turned to follow Herneiros.

Nigel shoved his way to the front and entered the vault. As if he was going to let the unarmored man with the bow act as their front line. That was just poor strategy.
“Get behind me,” he echoed. Age before beauty...and beauty before whatever the hell Herneiros was.

She stayed behind the fighters, but continued to nervously glance behind the group.

Herneiros, with less effort than he would assign to scratching his neck, declares, "Stop. Don't. Come back."
If Nigel had never wondered how you earn the title of the Wild Huntsman, then that was hardly the Wild Huntsman's fault. He stayed behind with the women and imminently more pleasant company.

The heavy vault door takes a few pulls to open even with the lock undone; the millennia have certainly left it settled in place. When it slowly creaks open Nigel and the others see it’s eighteen inches thick. Entering the vault of the sun, the musty smell is nearly overwhelming, as is the strange scent of something reptilian.
The adventurers’ eyes adjust to the pitch blackness as the torches provide a flicker of light. There’s a weapons rack in the corner with a few scattered guns and axes and swords and knives. A chest three feet high and five feet wide sits to the left with no apparent lock on it, and the walls of the vault are lined with book shelves that extend for fifty feet or so.
The center of the vault has something else entirely. A half dozen purple boxes sit in a hexagonal pattern with a small oven like box in the middle of them. The boxes are about eighteen inches on a side and have clear mechanisms for opening. The wizards detect abjuration magic on them and all and the oven has a strong augmentation spell on it.

“Can we assume the oven is our target, Thalia asked, and looked to Zavier, “any idea if this is what your dragon wanted?” She asked, not sure about the ominous voice, most things should have died by this point, but who really knew.

Had they been in the wild or on a hunt Nigel May have considered that. As it was they were on an adventure and the Adventurer Extraordinaire took point.
He enters the vault and cautiously opens the lid of the unlocked chest with his sword.

Zavier shook his head. “It’s those,” he said, pointing to the smaller boxes. “That’s what she wants.” He walked next to one then picked it up gingerly. Nigel opened the chest and he saw a couple bars of gold and some jars that look like they had some medicine or some such in them. They’re quite ancient however. As the back person of the party, Ceutinde hears some distant crashing sounds coming from downstairs. The magic holding the prisoners below has faded and they probably aren’t happy.

Tehol who had turned back (yet again) on hearing the vault opening, goes and takes a look at the wall of words and other weapons.

Herneiros crossed his arms. "The treasure of the gods is most disappointing. This is some dead man's private cache, not... divine revelation."
It was obvious from his face that he sought something more profound than just a bunch of... stuff. Still, he wandered forward to inspect the boxes Zavier was so keen on.

Herneiros opened the box. He saw a snow globe inside with a beautiful tree, red barked and evergreen like, with bluish leaves that reflected the flickering torchlight like sapphires. His hand actually slightly numbs touching it it’s so powerful.

Tehol who had turned back (yet again) on hearing the vault opening, goes and takes a look at the wall of words and other weapons. The weapons are ancient but seem functional. Most look ritualized, more ornamental than combat ready, but one of the axes is clearly nicked by battle and a pair of swords that match each other with their green hilts and jade gemstone pommels clearly were meant to be used for some skewering action. The pistols are in an older style with exposed powder that could lead to frequent malfunctions.

His hand actually slightly numbs touching it it’s so powerful. Herneiros is absolutely baffled after retracting his hand. "Friend Zavier... what... what is this? Is this what we sailed so far and killed so many for?"

Zavier was too busy looking into his own box to answer a moment. “No,” he said, then he turned the opened container toward Herneiros, who saw a leathery egg inside of it, “this is what she wanted.” They all heard the crashing sounds from below getting louder. “We best grab why we can and get the hell out of here.”
